It's when I listen to country that I realise how foreign the USA is.

Wouldn't really put most of Wanda's music in the "country" category. But shoot, it's only a name  :thumb:

I have exactly the same feeling when I watch Morris dancers capering about.

"What galaxy are these guys from, anyhow?"   :azn:

You might say the Chuck Berry invented Rock and Roll.  Elvis is the King and Wanda is the Queen.

I drink a quart of sake, smoke dynamite!
I chase it with tobbacy and then shoot out the lights!

Well you can talk about me, say that I'm mean!
I'll blow your head off baby with nitroglycerine!

'Cause I'm a Fujiyama Mama
And I'm just about to blow my top!
Fujiyama-yama, Fujiyama!
And when I start erupting
Ain't nobody gonna make me stop!

You might say the Chuck Berry invented Rock and Roll.  Elvis is the King and Wanda is the Queen.

Agreed with the King and Queen!!! and I like Chuck but to me it was these few guys that started it all.....
Tbone Walker, Wynonie Harris and Jimmy Liggins were swinging like big dogs and at the same time Ike Turner's band (Kings of Rhythm)  called the Delta Cats for the record, and backed singer Jackie Brenston to cut "Rocket 88" with Sam Phillips in Memphis in early 51. This record is the beginning...it has the 12 bar rock and roll shuffle, it has the wailing sax and most importantly the guitar boogie-woogie  fingers of Willie Kizart through his busted up amplifier (stuffed with paper after it was dropped) and the distorted rockin tone that they decided to use anyway....that started it all.

https://youtu.be/Gbfnh1oVTk0               This is it...have a listen!!!  This rocks!!!

Years and years ago while visiting Memphis for Graceland and Sun Studios I got to see that amplifier (still on display at Sun) and stand in the room where the million dollar quartette recorded...it was amazing to stand at the alter of rock and roll :)

Good stuff.  Some say that Elvis started Rock n Roll by singing black R&B music.

I say that Chuck Berry started Rock n Roll by singing white country music.

I don't claim to be right.  But I credit Chuck with inventing it.  And more than the music, more like a genre or a lifestyle.

Listen to Pee Wee Clayton....he was doing Chuck Berry 5-8 years before Chuck was.
From about 1938 there were probably a hundred artists and bands that contributed and drove the development of the genre. Though Chuck helped move it forward it had already been "invented"  that's the tuff part, it evolved...but the start had already happened years before him.

I respectfully agree to disagree while still liking your suggestion and digging Chuck
