what do the plugs look like? are your valves set and throttle bodies sync'd?
Nice looking bike otherwise!

The plugs look a bit dark, like it's been running rich but they look identical. The valves are non adjustable. I don't know abut the throttle bodies being sync'd, all I know is that it's got fuel injection.
It's only done 3500 miles.

Oh Hydro motor, was the recall done?
look close at the crossover pipe between the headers, is there a crack on the blue side? has it spent a long time idling? if yes then TB balance could be way off..
you do know these bikes like to rev? you don't want to lug it like a Harley.. shift above 4k ..
I'd start with a check of TB sync.. easy to do w/a twin max or other vacuum tool..
many guys here know more than me, wait patiently.

Yes the recall has been done. There is no crack on the blue side. I have no idea how long it has spent idling, I have only just bought it. I discovered that it likes to rev :grin:

the butterfly inside each throttle body needs to be set equally so they open at the same time and same amount.. when closed both should be fully closed.. is the throttle stop screw holding the left side slightly open? OR do the air bleed screws need to be adjusted..
this not the best example but can illustrate the mechanism.

What do your pipes look like ?
The left one is a little but lighter. Just like it's running hotter. I bought it that way with 20k miles, it has 60k on it now.

I doubt that the difference would show up in a photo. I couldn't make much of the photos here either.

It's an air cooled bike. The breeze must have been from only one direction. Solution: turn around and go the other way!
Laughing....no, seriously, get your fuel system synced by someone that knows what they are doing. What goes in must come out.

My V7 (1TB) was doing the same thing, in my case the dealer removed my charcoal canister and sealed the return at the intake. I think I over filled the tank and raw gas most likely soaked the canister and the fuel went back into the engine. The plugs were black and the engine started to run poorly. Now if I over fill the tank I smell raw gas, guess I wont do that any more.

Just the same, a good tuneup is in order. Start with adjusting the valves, TPS, throttle body sync in that order.

Could someone please explain how the left cylinder works harder than the right ?
On my T-3 the right pipe is purple/blue and the left amber/straw colored , so opposite of OP .
The bike has 137k miles on it , and I guess it happened sometime in its past .
I have had it since summer 2015 and a bit over 4k miles , so not much experience , but it has not changed .
I do remember the initial carburetor setting differed slightly from one side to the other on the air screw ; thought that was odd .

Because of the unequal 270/450 firing order, the left cylinder fires first, then the right. It's a subtle thing, but the left should run hotter than the right, all other things being equal.

I think this means the right cylinder gets a bigger "push" from the left one while the left cylinder gets a smaller "push" from the right because of the amount of rotation from the crankshaft.
being non technical type, I am just kinda guessing here.

I have to book it in for a safety, I will get it checked out when I am there.
PS, It was serviced at a Guzzi dealership just before I got it so it may well already be sorted, but I will make sure.

Today spoke with the dealer who did the recall and serviced the bike, he gave me the history of my bike and what was done at the time of the recall/service.
The 2nd owner bought it in 2007 with just 18 miles on the clock. He did not ride it much either clocking up an average of 346 miles per year between 2007 and 2016.
The valve gear was replaced along with the lower fork brace, and even though they did not have to Piaggio picked up the tab. The oil was changed twice, the first time to flush they system. It was noted that it had been running hotter on one side, and the throttle bodies were tuned to correct this.
I'm a happy boy :grin:

So my 2015 Griso with only 1200 miles on it already has more purple discoloring on the LHS vs. the RHS, which has some slight purpling.
Wonder if I should be concerned or whether the mapping even can be adjusted for Left side vs. Right side...will have to ask Beetle on this.

I can make it run hot on one side or the other or both or neither with nothing more sophisticated than a screwdriver.
