Title: floor board rubber removal
Post by: xackley on December 16, 2018, 02:47:02 PM
I want to remove the rubber from the floor boards to clean up the rust. What is the safest way to pop them off without damage?
Thank you
Don

On the 2003 EV? Are they the type that are glued on or ride on rubber isolators?

2004 has the rubber insulators. You just carefully push them out from the bottom with a screwdriver. 2003 should have this style.

Rubber insulators on mine. Ok, thats what I thought but decided to ask before I poked a hole through them.
I guess I'll soak them in hot soapy water before I try again.

Might help to warm them up a bit with a hair drier or heat gun.

Take them out the same way one removes a tubeless valve from a wheel. Put a little  upward pressure on the board as you take a blunt screwdriver and starting at the edges push the nipples through the hole their in, one at a time. If they are very dry rotted they will probably break off at which time replacement is the only fix.
