NGC Silly Purchase
« on: May 26, 2023, 07:07:19 AM »
I was driving to court the other day and saw an old car for sale in a front yard.  I showed my wife and friends and everyone said not to buy it.  So I did.  It’s a 65 Plymouth Sport Fury with a 383 big block and four speed.  Now I have to sell a half dozen bikes and clear out the garage. The dog voted for it.

Car found you!

……that’s always the explanation I’ve used to garner some empathy.

Looks great!

I agree with your wife and friends. 4 wheels is a step backwards from two. Certainly not worth sacrificing perfectly serviceable motorcycles for. As far as the dog"s vote goes; He only said "convertible" because you didn't offer him a sidecar rig.

Ben, Ben, Ben. You silly boy. I bet it was the fender skirts that made it irresistible. I'd love to see a picture of that with the Vincent.

Great purchase IMO. I love those old boats. Had, for a short time, a 1967 Dodge Polara (hardtop), what a great ride. Relaxing in all aspects.

That's very nice! I always thought that Chrysler Corp. cars were way ahead in body design during the mid 60's. Of course, technically,  engine, transmission, suspension, electrics, etc. they were way ahead since the early 60's. Good score!      IMHO, of course, YMMV!

Yes, Mopar or no car!

Nice Car Ben! You don't need to sell bikes, you just need a bigger (or another) garage.

Nice old Mopar. 1965 was a good year, the company had mostly recovered from Exner's antics. Quality was quite good and design had recovered from his wacked out from his Looney Tune work thanks to Pete.

Beautiful and not silly at all. Low production (about 6000) convertibles, even less with the four speed and it was the Indy 500 pace car that year!

Silly alright. I just hope I don’t come across a ‘68 Coronet big block or i’d be silly . I had one, a SuperBee I shouldn’t have sold. Not a convertible though. That is a nice survivor!

What do you mean silly? Or would you rather a shyster stock broker get all your money? I have tools and many gadgets that are seldom used, but IMHO it beats looking at a portfolio of stocks and bonds.

I'm happy for you ENJOY.

I had a 64 and a 65 with the 383 and 4 speed. Drop the hammer in first and light up the rear tire through the first 3 gears! God, I miss that.

WOW! That's nice! My first car in high school was a 66 Fury hardtop but with the 318 auto. Yes, that trunk is huge. Great car on dates and at Drive In movies.

Oh, one other thing. Those cars were tough as nails. On my first college date in 73 had a drunk pull out in front of me in what at the time was a late model Buick GS. Long story short the Fury totaled his Buick and the Fury had $90 worth of damage. After the cops were done with us we continued on the date minus headlights on the left side.
