Title: Sidecar Tire Pressures
Post by: TobyJug on June 10, 2019, 02:00:30 PM
I'm fairly new to sidecaring and I've just gone through a sidecar tire after only a couple of thousand km (I'm in Canada).  I'm pretty sure I over inflated it so 25psi.  Have any of you more experienced sidecarists got any suggestions as to what it should be or is it just trial and error.  The sidecar is a double seater Hannigan so it's got a bit of weight.  The bike, by the way, is a Norge.

Thanks in advance.

That would be on the tire itself for max pressure. If a car tire or bike tire you read the tire pressure. It should not go that quickly though, sounds misaligned to me.  My sidecar weighs 250# and has a Honda Civic hub so wheel is a 14" car rim. The tire was new in 1993 and has over 75Kmi on it, it's getting pretty thin. Time I get a new one.
I don't have a lot of 'toe in' on the rig so it all runs w/o much scuffing.  I keep my pressure a tad above recommended on tire is 32 and I run it 35 psi.

Like Steve said, it sounds mis aligned to me too. I have a california sidecar that weighs 225 lbs, with a 13"  155 car tire on it, and I run around 35 psi in the tire. after about 7K miles, I still cant tell there is any wear on the tire at all, it still looks new.
I bet you have too much toe in, or worse, toe out, and its causing the tire to "scrub".
I only run about 1/4" toe in on my rig.
Rick.

I'll pile on. Yes, you have an alignment issue.. apparently a pretty bad one to wear out a hack tire that soon. They almost never wear out..
From memory..it's been a long time now.. 5/8" is about max toe in. I ran the Jack-All at 1/4".

Either get it corrected for alignment, or fly the chair one hundred percent of the time.
