Title: WHICH V7????? i, ii, or iii or should I keep my B750
Post by: timonbik on August 16, 2018, 09:49:41 PM
Ok folks, thinking of replacing my 2008 B750 with another Guzzi.  Have an opportunity to buy a leftover new 2013 Classic but was wondering if I am really gaining much?  Also some great deals on Stornello's but not nearly as good as the 2013. Should I just wait for a deal on a iii?  I had considered a Griso but I really love the nimbleness and the cheaper insurance of the 750.  I have my Vic for 2 up and hwy cruising.

thanks, Tim

If the 2013 is anything like my 2016 , then you'll love it !  :thumb:

……………………………………………..

I think the V-7III has better gearing ... you might check that out before you deside ?

What's wrong with your B75? Is it worn out? Or do you just fancy a change? Unless it's giving you problems why swap it? Unless you want too...

The Breva is the same as the Classic, with different accoutrements. That is, the same ECU and fuel delivery system. If you're looking to 'update', a V7-II or III would be the next step, if you want to stay with a 750. My 2 cents,  and not even worth that.

Where was there a 13 Classic?

The 12 Classic in the US got the bigger metal tank (5.5g) but was still a 2TB, while 12 EU bikes were already 1TB Stones.

By 13 the US bikes were 1TB Stones/Specials too. I have one.

There's a pretty big difference between the 2TB and 1TB bikes in my book, which is why I waited for 13.

If I were to buy today I'd probably go with a III, but I've got no reason to get rid of my MkI.

IMO, the V7III is a well balanced neutral handling motorcycle.  The '10 V7 felt like a early 1970s bike that requires deliberate inputs to negotiate the curves.

The V7III is not just an all new engine.  There are geometry changes as well the contribute to the improved handling.

I would say test ride as many as you can and make your own determination.

I cross shopped a V7 II (Stornello) with the V7 III Stone. In back to back demo rides I felt the upgrades to the III were noticeable. Remember these were demo bikes so I can't speak to levels of tune but the III felt stronger across the rev range with better fueling - more so at higher revs. Handling also felt better, more neutral with less push in the front. Also like the seat and suspension. Only negative was leg room felt tighter but I resolved that with 1" longer shocks which also reduced rake and sharpened up steering. Several owners are recommending a 1/2" drop of the fork to do the same thing.

Bottom like is that I'm happy I went with the III. If you don't mind the matte and black finish the Stone is also priced very well. I bought mine on a promo in January that gave me $1500 off retail plus 0% interest on a 2017 'demo' bike with 3 miles and full warranty.

You should do what you want to do. All the V7;s are good bike but they are not good at holding value. There are lots of V7's being listed around the country deeply discounted off MSRP. Don't get all in a lather about the leftover 2013 unless its exactly what you want. If it isn't there is the same deal for newer V7's in different colors, you just need to shop around a bit.

Also be aware when you buy a bike with an $10,000 MSRP for $6,000 +/- don't expect it to hold value when you try and sell/trade it. Actually don't expect any modern Guzzi to hold and value should sell/trade it.

Everybody fawns over Guzzi's when they see then in person but very few people will actually buy them.

Ride them............. See what speaks to you.

I bought my Stornello because it was a STEAL ($6899 NEW) I REALLY like it, but had nothing similar to compare to. I was adding it to a stable with a Griso and Norge.  Nor sure how I'd compare a Breva to a V7iii, but I LIKE the V7iii electronic package and upgrades over V7ii and V7.

I agree with previous posts, ride and compare if you can. If smooth engine and good fuelling out of the box is important then you may prefer the V7iii. If not, go by personal taste. They are not that different. I'd avoid the early plastic tank but having said that I have not read of many cases of swelling. I also have a soft spot for the Stornello (a bit special to me and surprisingly nice on gravel). But, again, very personal  :azn:

In my book, the 750 Breva is a beautiful bike, hard to improve on for looks alone. Spend some money on suspension, and you have a upgrade.

But you might want a change nevertheless. For a upgrade you should go for the V7 III.
If it's just for change's sake it doesn't matter so much if it's a I, II or III, does it? Take what you find is the best deal.

The bike is a Special so it has the single throttle body.  I had considered a Stornello which is on the V7ii platform but even with the aggressive pricing it would still be $2000 more than the Special.  I love my Breva but it is starting to show its age. Just thought for a few thousand more than its used price I could move up to  a Special with a full warranty.

How many miles has it done? It might be worth just giving it a freshen up. Depends what needs doing to it?

How so?

personally, I think the current crop of V7's is approaching perfection, there is just not a hell of a lot on them I'd change for everyday use.  This tends to be the point where manufactures want to screw things up as in Yamaha turning the XS 650 into a cruiser.  You might want to pick one up before flame decals or twenty five pounds of ADV gear gets tacked on...
