Help with in-line thermostat?
« on: November 05, 2019, 08:52:44 PM »
I know someone here can answer a couple of simple questions about a 220vac wall-mounted thermostat.

A Mears thermostat controlling a baseboard heater, at least 25 years old, wouldn't turn off. I pulled the circuit breaker and ordered a new Honeywell CT410B double-pole unit. The Mears has three wires: red line, white neutral, black load.

The Honeywell has four wires: T1 and L1 (black) and L2 and T2 (red). A wiring diagram suggests that L means line and T means load, but doesn't show how to connect to the wires coming out of the wall box.

Questions: Should I . . .
  • connect L1 and L2, together, to the house line wire (black)? Or just one?
connect T1 and T2 together to the house load wire (black)? Or just one?
What do I do with the white house neutral wire (white)?

I'm good with DC circuits but 220vac scares me, and when I'm scared sometimes I don't think straight.
