Is that Springfield?  That area would be an option for the first night's stopping location.

Yes Senior Chuck, Springfield, Mo. I was thinking it would be a good stopping point also. We can backroad it to CV from here.

Here I sit freezing my noonies off in W Chester Hts checking out WildGoose when up pops Cedar Vail. Its a funny posting if you read all of it,Ol Ckucky from Indiana made mention of police patrol and that gheezer that rides a bmw was quick to correct him as to only one cop protrols CV.That reminds me of Cedar Vail #1----Heres what really happened,3 hands up to Alla Iwouldnt lie trust me :bow     Twas the nite ofCV#1 we were all having a good ole time, as I recall  there were 6 of us,had an enormous bon fire  Guzzisti  was heavily in t0, my Coors special reserve Old Bike  was probabiy pissin on someones tent AM General and Delrod were doing dishes(???).Now these boys were getting roudy about nine thirty 10 there was a ghastly commotion, turned out it was only our first guard dog (weve replaced him with another) chasing a mountain lion(squirrel) the screams from the ml were terrifying the bon fire on the edge of uncontrollable (should I mention some idiot putting a large cooler full of beer to close to the fire? that styrofoam melts quickly so we were forced to drink it fast).Looking to the sky I saw at least 1star shooting across the sky ,Kirby1923 said there were several he said the sky must be falling ,he would know if anyone would being a pilot and all (ww1 ace as I recall),Im thinking to my self if the sky falls what are the odds of a star landing on my tent probably tearing it(rain???) oh boy.The live band is blairing away thru the cedar trees ,spearing us with dull cedar needles the ground was covered. Thanks for bringing the cds Guzzisti!

Aw gee grandpa fubilator, tell us another bedtime story. Tell the one about the catfight over the leftovers in the e-lectric skillett saturday night @ CV-Y2. That one gets me a litttle misty eyed :( :( :( :( :(

I firmly believe the reason why our little gathering in CV grew from 8 the first year to 24 the second year was that anyone within 500 miles could hear us laughing  :D Here is hoping that the third CV gathering grows again , and that everyone has as much fun as we had at the first two .

Hi guys,

Would there be a spot left for a Riding Dutchman? I am finally getting back on the US roads after 3 years. Just a short trip this time: picking up my big blue EV in Los Angeles for a trip to a conference in Chicago. I was planning to go and visit StormTruck2 - as he formally owns my bike (long story) and is living close enough to Chicago - but he told me he was planning to come to the Cedar Vale NAR. So I am planning on meeting him - and the rest of you guys - there and leaving him the bike to take home with him. I will probably be flying out of Wichita on Sunday.

Looking forward to visiting not a rally in Kansas

Mike,
Without adding many more miles, you could (assume you're riding the loop counter-clockwise)

- west of Cambridge, follow the Grouse Creek road south to Dexter
- See the original "Oh Henry's" candy bar factory in Dexter
- Then take "14" (the Grouse Creek Road) southwest out of Dexter
- When you hit US-166 jog farther west for a couple of miles
- Take "1" south to Silverdale
- Follow that same road east to Maple City
- Jog north from Maples City (the same road) back to US-166
- carry on as already planned.

Got it.  Too easy.

(there is a "Deke" who lived in Kansas quite a few years and contributed regularly to the MGNOC news letter--just didn't want you to think I was him)

Is this the candy factory in Dexter still going? I think they made the old fashioned hard christmas candy. Might be the same place Daniel Kalal was talking about. Used to deliver sack feed and minerals in the area, Moline and Sedan were a couple stops on the route. Always went through Dexter and saw the candy factory next to the road but never got to stop.

I believe it's still a going concern.  I took these shots in 2007, but there's still a web page out there.

That's it! Thanks Daniel. I remember that building and sign. Guess it's worth a look to see if it is still open.

See everyone at Cedar Vale! :bike

Actually, I am surprised I survived those days delivering that feed. Can't remember which place had it, but the ramp between the trailer and the storage room was literally like this \. And with a stack of oh ten or twelve bags, 50lbs each, you learned real quick how not to go down that ramp. Don't miss that for anything.
