V7 ii and Hepco Becker Center Stand Installation

I just received a Hepco-Becker center stand for my 2016 V7ii Stone.

Previously I have installed several sets of H-B’s saddlebag brackets and a set of engine guards on different motorcycles. Usually the process is relatively problem free. But I have a few questions that I’m hoping veterans of this installation can answer:

1. The H-B instructions say to “dismantle the cross member on the lower frame – this is obsolete.” Does the side stand anchor to this cross member in anyway? It’s the only thing holding the V7 upright and I have an unusual fear of gravity.

2. I’m supposed to grease up the steel spacer and slide it into the center stand. No problem! But, “with the washer”! Only one? Yes, only one. I am assuming that it can go on either side of the spacer. Am I correct?

3. Then the instructions tell me to “mount the adapter to the center stand…” Maybe it’s me, but my center stand will not slide between the “ears” on the adapter, even with copious amounts of grease spread everywhere (including my fingers and clothing). It is almost as if the powder coating is too thick. Is this normal? Do I need to grind down the finish?

I have not gotten any further? Are there more alligators lurking ahead?

It was a few months ago when I did mine - but I do remember having similar difficulties.  I think I ended up leaving a spacing washer off.

1. the cross member is #9 on the parts diagram (Table 33.02)



"Obsolete" means that it is no longer used, the centerstand replaces that part. The sidestand is not affected by the installation of the centerstand.

3. Manufacturing tolerances being what they are, you may have to remove some of the powder coating and/or delete the washer. I suggest removing the coating on the end of the stand mating feature, rather from the frame (adaptor).
4. Yes, there are more alligators. In particular, installing the spring. Suggestion: Bend the spring and insert washers or pennies in the gaps to increase the length of the spring

when it's time to put the spring on find a deep well socket that just goes over the stud on the stand and use a long extension.  put it through the spring, slide it onto the stud then it will just lever over it. just like an old fashioned drum brake tool.

I'm also going to try heating the adapter and freezing the center stand. They might slide together - but then they might not pivot when they return to normal temperatures!
I sent the same questions to Moto Machines. Maybe they will comment.

  i think when Steve put mine on he loosened up the lower frame fails below the engine

I let the stand part sit outside (it is cold here), and brought the frame inside to warm up. Then I whacked on the stand portion with a rubber mallet and got it into the adapter. Moto Machines suggested the whacking part. The grease that was smeared everywhere might also have helped. It was a bit clumsy, but it worked.

When the weather warms up a bit and it stops snowing, I'll mount the assembly to the Guzzi.

I finally got to the point where I could install the stand on my V7 II Stone. For some reason, I could not get the stand to align with the holes in the frame. There is an "L" shaped bracket on the front of the center stand assembly (maybe for the charcoal canister, if you have one?) and the bracket fouls the exhaust crossover. I decided to drop the exhaust system and see if the "L" bracket would fit above the crossover. That did not work either.

I've perused the posts regarding V7's and no one else mentions this issue. How could I be so lucky? Is it me? Is this a extra bonus the H-B now includes? The instructions state that the stand fits the V7II and the V7III.

I'm eyeing my hacksaw and wondering just how long would I have to saw to complete a bracket-ectomy. I sent an email to Moto Machinces expressing my displeasure, by so far no response.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I had the same problem and I ended up cutting the bracket.

The installation of the springs is an other pane in the ass

After all I want to modify the angle by cutting a little bit the stop
so the stand will open more, because if you have the bike on the center stand and somebody push from
aft, the stand will retract easily.

For almost $300, we should not have to cut parts off the center stand so the thing can fit the motorcycle it was allegedly designed for.

And as i understand same design with circlip's stand.

If my instructions are to be believed (and the photos match my stand), I have a 500545.00.01 Moto Guzzi V7 lll Stone/Special/Anniversario/Races and V7 ll Stone/Special.

My guess is that H-B updated the design for the V7 lll which has fouled up installation on the V7 ll. But that is just a guess.

I riding bikes since 1980, for me half of the satisfaction of riding a bike is the maintenance and the modifications.
I am Greek and in my country most of after market parts was Italian, for the installation i had to modify the parts to fit.
When you modify and install your stand, it will be YOUR stand no a hepco becker stand and after some minor general modifications the bike will be YOUR moto guzzi.
This is only my opinion about bikes, maybe is not correct.
By the way, my bike is V7II stone Europe 2015.

I will probably end up modifying the stand (I will have to buy a new blade for my hacksaw), but I want to make sure that the American Hepco-Becker importer (who is a decent enough fellow) understands that there is an issue.

did anyone ever figure out the issue of the L bracket hitting the exhaust crossover?
Am I really meant to cut up the brand new stand I just bought?

I thought that H-B had changed the design, but maybe I saw a V7 III or V7 850 stand.
I held out for a while just because I was annoyed but finally bit the bullet and hack-sawed the stupid bracket off.
IMHO H-B used to be better than this, but don't get me started...

I installed mine on the Stornello 3 years ago, but remember that other than getting the spring on, and moving the side stand switch wires, it went n without an issue. I don't remember if I had to put a shim on or shave the main mount/pivot, but it doesn't stand out in my memory as being too difficult.

After the ordeal I experienced trying to fit a centre stand to my v7-III Stone, I didn't hesitate when I purchased my V85 Chook chaser.  Simple, I insisted the dealer fit it before delivery.  Not sure if it was a piece of cake or not, it's on and works well.

For completeness, if nothing else - it does not seem that anyone mentioned that in order to have the centrestand fit between the frame rails, it is normal to loosen off the bolts to the frame rails first. Then the powdercoating will not need a shave, nor will the rubber mallet be required.
