It's a shame because this is perfect weather for riding and the beginning of the foliage season

cliffrod:
I expect foliage season will largely be a bust this year anyways.  So many of the trees are already half stripped of leaves or more from the wind and rain of the storm.

yrunvs:
Leef peeping seems a bit trivial with what is going on there.

twowheeladdict:
Watching the helicopter going in and out of tight spaces to bring supplies and carry out people is something to see.

It'll be years before the whole thing is opened again. They're going to
have to reroute some sections.

The area has some GREAT motorcycling roads, some of which
don't exist at the moment, and may never again.

My girlfriend has kinfolk in Burnsville, NC, which is just off the BRP.
They're okay, but the destruction in the area is Biblical. Stuff
is just gone - in some cases entire downtowns. The forces involved
are jaw-dropping. How does a bridge girder get bent into a horseshoe
shape? How much force does it take to move a rock the size of a house?
How did an entire road get turned back into gravel - to the point where there
is no sign of human habitation except some debris in said gravel?

My heart goes out to so many of those people. Being in a flood
is bad enough; but some of these folks have lost absolutely everything:
house, car, possessions, and house lot. No place to go back to.

I wish them all the best.
