conti RA3's discontinued - best replacement?
« on: May 26, 2023, 04:20:52 PM »
I need to replace my road attack 3s soon on my v7iii. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for the best option now that getting more road attack 3s is impossible. Thanks.

I've run off several sets of Bridgestone A41 front and rear and the T32 front as well. Fine tire and reasonably priced.

On the V7 750 I II & III, to stay with the radial structure, there are actually not too many choices, the bridgestone A41.

I feel your pain about the RA-3.  The Bridgestone BT46 is not a radial but otherwise is VERY good.  I ran a set on my V7 III for 5000 miles.  The RA-3 seems to ride a little softer and will likely last a couple thousand miles more than the 46 though it's meaningless if ya can't get 'em.  Good luck.

For the front if I do the A41 it looks like I would need to use 110/80-18 instead of the standard stock size, how would that affect handling if at all?

and I only really need to replace the rear right now, they are both radials so I could run the A41 in rear and the RA3 in front right?

No reason not to.
The 110/80 front couldn't be told from a 100/90 if both brand new.

Came here with approximately the same question. I need to replace my rear, but the front looks to have plenty of life left in it

Yes.
And on a motorcycle it is possible to have different structures.

I was recently in a similar pickle . Where did all the tires go ? The only ones I found on numerous web sites are Avon Sprint ST , in the appropriate sizes . They are ZR rated radials . Not that I’ll ever use the high speed rating . I’ve found high speed rated tires “usually “ are better quality & require less balancing . Usually I’ll balance the wheel without a tire on it @ the first tire change & paint those weights flat black to match the (cast ) rims . Ya might be surprised how much the wheel is out !
Only 2 left when I ordered mine .

I recently went to the Michelin Road Classic on my California, after learning the Pilot Activ had been discontinued.  The Road Classic is apparently OEM on some Triumphs.

I emailed Continental about this, and was told that the Trail Attack 3 could be used as a substitution, but I'm not having much luck finding that either. They also told me that the RA4 will be coming out in 8 more sizes this year, but 130/80-17 isn't one of them

I'd really prefer to only replace the rear right now, if possible, but having grip in cold and wet conditions is important to me, and the main other tire I looked at before was the Metzeler RoadTec 01.....but apparently at least one of our sizes in that tire is a bias ply construction for some reason, so I don't think that would work.

How do the Michelin Road Classic and Bridgestone A41 compare to the RA3 for cold and wet conditions?

Edit: I see that the Road Classic is bias ply in most sizes, so I guess that's out as an option for only replacing the rear

The reports of mileage on A41’s that I’ve seen aren’t great.  I ride with a passenger 50-60% of the time and that’s rough on rear tires even with proper air pressure.  I’d like a tire that will last 7-8,000 miles and I don’t think an A41 will.

They will last twice as long as the original tire and 1/4-1/3 less than the RA3 that you can't buy or afford! Plus they are cheap, especially if there is a rebate.
