Is there anyone near Flagstaff Arizona that can assist me with getting my Griso to a temporary place to store while I rent a car to go home and return with a trailer. The bike was making metallic noise out of the right head then quit running. Phone is 619-884-7790. I’m at a motel presently

Quit running on both sides but noisy on only the right ?

If you have a basic membership in the American Motorcycle Assn your benefits include a free tow to any location within a certain radius, either 25 or 35 miles. It doesn't have to be a repair shop. Good luck.

Sorry I can't be of help. A bump to the top is what I can do.
As mentioned, maybe the bike shop can store it for you. AAA will also tow bikes if you have the RV add on.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had ordered a tow to take it to Prescott when my brother called and is headed my way. The problem is with the right cylinder. I. Was getting a loud metallic sound in the right cylinder and then it started dropping out then quit. I didn’t have much in the way of tools (left them home this time because the griso has always been bulletproof) I did take the cover off and all the adjustment nuts were there and tight so without any tools that’s as far as I went. Im wondering if it’s the cam chain tensioner that has failed but at 19thousand I wouldn’t think so.

I was going to suggest Jim and team at Powersports Outlet in Prescott, as they are the closest official and authorized Moto Guzzi dealer in northern Arizona. Mechanically, they should be able to diagnose the problem and help you. Keep us posted and good luck with your Griso.

Sorry I could not be of assistance as I have guests in town this weekend that I have to entertain.
I was going to suggest Jim and team at Powersports Outlet in Prescott, as they are the closest official and authorized Moto Guzzi dealer in northern Arizona. Mechanically, they should be able to diagnose the problem and help you. Keep us posted and good luck with your Griso.

Sorry to read about your predicament but as others have already said, at least you safe.
You probably know but just in case, early year 1200 came with flawed flat valve tappets that wear quickly and can cause problems. Factory upgraded to roller tappets mid-2012. My SE was one of the first to have the rollers from the factory. Tons of info and knowledge on Griso Ghetto if you weren't aware.
Whatever the problem hopefully it's a straightforward fix and not overly expensive.

Might help if we knew what year Griso? Early 1100's are bulletproof, later 1200 4V motors not so much unless after 2013.

Best of luck to you in hoping you can get it fixed and not be stranded to long. I’ve been stranded twice lately on my 2013 Stelvio. Not a fun feeling and leaves one questioning the bikes reliability!

Just read on GT he's back in CA, broken valve springs on intake of 17' 8V motor.

There's a guy on the ADV forum that broke a valve spring on his Stelvio. I think he was at about 100k when it broke. He replaced the spring and now has about 125k on it. Still going strong.

Defective / broken valve spring? Metal fatigue? Poor quality control at the factory? Other? :rolleyes: :shocked: :huh:

It's not the 1st one i've seen. Been a few around the world. Not many though compared to production.

A broken valve spring will only stop half of the motor, the good side will help destroy the bad side and Guzzisteve reports that it’s broken valve SPRINGS (plural).
How do you break more than one spring ?
Surely when the first on lets go, you drop compression on that side and she runs on one ?
If it’s dumped a spring, then the valve has probably given the piston a kiss and they’ve “made friends”… :sad:
I hark back to the fact that she’s died on BOTH sides, that’s not a valve spring issue.
Jeez, these damn 4 valve heads are finicky bastards. Lovely when they’re going, but…….Jeeeez.

Sorry I haven’t posted a follow up here. I got the bike home and pulled the valve cover to find the intake valve next to the cam chain was in the open position and the spring appears to be collapsed or broken. I recovered the two keepers and the valve cap from on top of the head but couldn’t find the part of the adjuster the sets on top of the valve stem. This motor has never been reved over 7K or abused so I’m at a loss for an explanation. The bike only has about 19,000 miles on it.

Hope like hell the valve hasn’t contacted the piston or exhaust valve and replace the bits.
Why did the first one let go ?
Dunno.
But you will when you get it our on the bench. It’s immaterial now anyway, if the stem is straight then there’s been no tangling, get a new valve, springs, collets and stuff.
Throw the whole lot in .
BTW..
So the bike didn’t actually stop, it just dropped onto one cylinder…?

Update for those interested. I took the Griso to Todd Eagan yesterday and found out today that the damage is limited to the head. I need a new valve,spring, valve guide and valve adjuster. I feel fortunate there was no damage to the piston and cylinder.

One of the reasons I like Guzzis; they're so easy to work on.
Can you imagine having to make the same repair on a water-cooled 4vpc inline 4?

But our loose valve not kissing his partner is way out there, even if I couldn’t see evidence, I’d buy one.
Guide, notsomuch, even if he took a wallop from retainer, it would have to be ugly to change it.
Real point, of course, is why ?
I’m assuming never apart, FSH etc etc
Warranty would’ve been answer a few years back, motor now obsolete
Doubt anyone cares now, pitiful mileage for catastrophe in days of unlimited mileage warranty. But if you don’t use, you lose it.
I do have skin in this game, fitted same springs to my 650 8V, prob about same batch so if this really is common, I’ll biff em.

Yea i agree it’s pitiful mileage for a broken valve spring. The warranty just ran out in September 21 and I turned down an extended warranty because the griso was running so well and the number of high mileage grisos around with no problems. I bought the bike new in 2019.
