NGC - I'm excited over an SUV ??
« on: September 02, 2021, 05:03:05 PM »
Sort of!!  My lease was up on the 2018 Mazda6 Grand Touring (turbo 4)  so I took delivery this afternoon of a lovely 2021 CX30 AWD/Turbo.  This is my 5th Mazda over the past 30 years.  I like their vehicles.  Mazda's red paint is lovely ..... sparkles like a claret wine!

This vehicle has the same engine and tranny as my previous 2018 Mazda6.  It's a 2.5 liter 4 that produces slightly over 220 hp on 87 octane, and if one wants to spend the extra $$$$, 93 octane will get you slightly over 250hp.  I find that totally unnecessary, since the engine cranks out over 300 ft/lb of torque on either octane, at somewhere under 3000rpm.  Just not as much high end hp.

So, Zoom Zoom ...... I'm zoom zooming too!

From Google
In Europe, the octane rating on the pump is simply the RON figure. America, by contrast, uses the average of the RON and the MON figures, called the AKI (anti-knock index). Thus, 97 octane “super unleaded” in Britain is roughly equivalent to 91 octane premium in the United States.17. sep. 2012

I have the same red - Soul Red Crystal Metallic - on my 2019 Mazda 3 AWD Hatchback. It is glorious. The only issue is you cannot get touch up paint for it that matches, as the paint is a four layer (silver primer, red metallic color, then a tinted clear followed by a clear clear). You can get close, but exact.

But when the sun shines - wow.

CONGRATS on your new Mazda! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

We bought one of these in April.  2021 Hyundai Tucson AWD Limited.  This is our 2nd Tucson.  We put >175,000 trouble free miles on the last one.  Good "Road Trip" SUV! :thumb:   :boozing:

So that's what it takes to get that color of red?  Damn, it really stands out when the sun hits it just right.  It's on a 36 month lease/  I'm going on 79, and want to be around to do another one in 2024!  Mazda whacks you a few $$ for this color, but it's worth it!  Thanks for the tutorial on how the car is painted.

Congratulations!  They are great cars. I worked for Mazda for 25 years, and seen many models come and go. I did leave right before the CX30 came out, but talking to coworkers there they love them.

Congrats.

We bought our red CX-30 preferred trim the end of February this year.  Fun Car.  Once I add lumbar support and seat covers it will be perfect.  I never use the HP available in the 2.5 NA engine, but I can imagine how much fun that turbo would be to drive.  I've only driven it a half dozen times since we got it, but it does enjoy a curvy road.

If I could have got a CX-3 or CX-30 in manual shift I would have bought either one, but with both being automatics the CX-30 is a much more refined driving experience.

Just FYI on the color - Dr. Colorchip comes really close and it is easy to use. I got a danged rock chip the second week I owned the car. The touch up isn't perfect but at the ten foot mark I am the only person who can find it.

2WA,

Cosmetically, our CX30s are nearly identical.  I think I would have preferred the aluminum wheels vs the black that came on mine.  After four days of ownership (leasership?) I think I'll be really happy with this little SUV.

I joined the CX-30 forum to help figure out some of the quirks in the Man Machine Interface and if they can be overcome.  https://www.cx30talk.com/whats-new/posts/501184/

I really am enjoying the driver aids when I do get to drive the car.  Never thought I would be a fan of the adaptive cruise control, but on a two lane road with no passing zone it is nice to just put the max distance and let the car follow the leader.
