2007 Norge won't start.
« on: June 12, 2022, 12:32:31 PM »
I have a 2007 Norge 1200 that's not starting.  Cranks over and fires but only runs for about 2 seconds.  Maintenance icon flashing on the display.

Battery was new last year and is kept on maintainer while parked.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Is this one of those with the fuel filter in tank that can separate from the pump?

Yes, stock they came with a plastic fuel filter that could separate. I would suggest installing a new metal filter such as it hasn't been done already.

It’s very important that you be accurate when describing symptoms mate.
Your Norge DOES start, but won’t continue running. Because it runs for two seconds, there’s a hundred things that I now know that aren’t wrong.
If it didn’t start, would that mean..
No electrical power ?
Lights work, but nothing when you hit the button ?
Cranks but won’t fire ?
All these would point toward something specific in nature, but if your bike runs for two seconds, then there’s been 30 successful spark cycles so you know not to look there.
You could take the injectors out and hit the starter, they should spit fuel half a mile as the engine is cranking.
Or do the smart thing and take the tank off and check the filter.

I believe the appropriate diagnosis of the "fuel filter problem" (which is a separation from the fuel hose) is to open the gas tank, turn on the ignition, and listen for the fuel pump to start. If it doesn't make a whining noise you have a problem with the pump. If it does start making a noise and also churns up the gas in the tank (as you will see), you have a separated fuel line.

The solution I recall is to get both a new, fully submersible (in gas) hose and a new metal filter.

Think I have this right.

Thanks for the advice!
I opened the gas cap and turned the key on and could definitely hear the pump so that's not the problem.
I'm in the process of getting the tank off, found a video of that process on here but can't seem to find anything on replacing the fuel filter.
Does anyone know where I could source the filter and hose and I'm planning on replacing the air filter also so I'd need that too.
Does anyone have advice on what I should replace, adjust, check, or lube while I have the tank off?

MG Cycle is right over in WI, fast shipping. Workshop manual tells all if you can read & put it to action.

Edit--------- forgot, O'Rielly's auto has the SAE30R10 hose for sale $24  a foot. You'll need 6"

If you didnt see the fuel churning it probably isnt the fuel filter.
I replaced my fuel filter when it didnt really need it and it was a royal pain. I would not do that unless totally necessary.
Good luck figuring it out.
