What's a fuel tank worth?
« on: September 23, 2022, 06:35:00 PM »
What's a T3 fuel tank worth?  Any one I buy will undoubtedly need paint, but ballpark, what are these worth, assuming little to no rust inside, normal wear and tear on the outside (i.e. minimal dents/dings if any).  I'd figure without a gas cap.

I've got one if your interested. It had pin holes which I welded up and then sealed with with red kote.  I then painted it but never ended up using it.  Never had any gas in it since the restoration.

giphy i miss you

since we're talking about Tonti tanks here...

in comparison to the 850 T3 tank,
is it right to assume a G5 or Convert tank is nearly identical in shape and volume, is interchangeable with only minor variations except cap types?

I think g5/convert tank has a crude fuel level sensor of some sort.

Absolutely not.  They are different tanks.  If you look at Greg Bender's green Convert https://www.thisoldtractor.com/projects_i-convert.html, the Moto Guzzi emblem is above the break in the tank.  The T3 has a flat band on which the emblem sits.  The shape of the two tanks is slightly different but I have no idea if they are otherwise interchangeable.

Greg has done something "custom" or perhaps it was different on later Converts. On my '76 Convert they sit on the flat band, same on the Convert tank I just bought.

The shape is the same. The only difference between the T3 and Convert tanks is the fuel level sender port.

I have a clean maroon Cal II tank that I would sell reasonable. Has a small fork tube dent.

To answer the OPs question.. I'd say bottom dollar would be in the $300 area for a decent one. <shrug>
