Got my Orange Crush - Bought a 950 Supermoto
« on: July 06, 2016, 02:58:13 PM »
Good guy Rosso Woody from the board here bought my Griso.  I delivered it to him yesterday.  The guy is gonna have a Guzzi museum up there soon with a gorgeous 1200 Sport, old Sport in the making, Stelvio, and now the Griso.  A little sore to see her go.  No, I mean like really sore  :thumb:  the discs in my back just can't deal anymore with anything except upright machines.  Kidding, but seriously it was probably the best looking motorcycle I have ever owned.  And so I go from that, to this.  One could possibly and subjectively and possibly even objectively  say I kicked Sophia Loren out of the garage and replaced her with Ugly Betty's Uglier Sister.  But that'd be your opinion.  Having grown up on dirt bikes it must have made me a little warped as I personally think it's straight up gorgeous.  I ain't kidding.  Somebody somewhere thinks Roseanne is beautiful.  Aint love grand?  :boozing:

Back in 2008 I went on several demo rides on one of these.  Change that, those years ago I went on several demo rides ON THIS VERY BIKE.  The local KTM shop only got one.  It was later sold new to older owner, new owner then sold it to his older bud, and now I bought it yesterday.  A 2007 model with about 9500 miles and in very nice, kept by mature rider shape.  Anyhow, I never forgot those rides and have talked about them many times on this very board.  First 70 miles yesterday confirm my feelings so many years ago and leave me asking why I have gone through so many bikes and never bought the single one that brought me the most smiles and helmet laughter.  This is the most fun and biggest giggle inducing motorcycle I have ever ridden in my life.  The big dirt bike on steroids is an apt description.  Takes me all the way back to the mountains of Appalachia as a kid where I started riding dirt and motocross bikes when I was about 8.  I like it too because unlike the Griso, so far it only brings out that same 8 year old hooligan whereas the Griso wanted regularly to bring out my 45 year old let's go REALLY fast and maybe get me or my license crushed hooligan.   :copcar:

Anyhow, oh my golly am I in love with this big orange crush.  Like stupid, silly love.  Like someone tell us to get a room kinda love.  Like look at that poor, ridiculous, pathetic, middle aged sucker falling for that teenager kinda love.  Well, you get the pictures.  Here they are, btw.  She's purdy.  I know  :thumb: :afro:

A nice machine, but one thing I don't understand.

If you sold the Griso because you have a bad back, how are you going to live with that KTM saddle?

Ha!  That's a good point.  I would only say your comment is regarding a bad backside issue only.  I seriously can't explain exactly why my bad discs don't even talk at all on upright bikes.  Motorcycles with with forward lean and more rear pegs don't seem to bother me much, I guess keeping my back straighter.  Maybe?  Not sure.

Hey I never said it was the "best" just the most fun.  There's a difference  :thumb:
But, it probably is the best one...this week
Hard to pick a "best" bike but I'm sure if I had to, it would be a Guzzi of some kind.

I know of what you speak.

Now go wild and trade the 950 for the 1290SD.

Report back after the bouts of laughing and swearing subside.

Hey Randy, I only have about 110 miles on it so far and I'm no good with write-ups, but here ya go.  It's AWESOME!   :bike-037: How's that?

I know of what you speak.

Now go wild and trade the 950 for the 1290SD.

I've ridden the 990 Duke and it was a total hoot as well but there's just something about my motocross and dirt riding days that must give me some kind of stupid joy when I pilot the 950 here.  Back in the hills of Appalachia where I grew up it was often necessary to use motocross bikes on the road to get to the abandoned strip mines and/or mountains.  When you were doing this as a kid you drove really "fast" (about 45mph) and kept a constant lookout for police.  A silly thrill.  In my first 100 miles on the bike here I have often found myself smiling and having that same experience of "maybe this shouldn't be allowed" on a roadway  :copcar:

Good looking KTM

Now there's something you don't hear often.  Thanks, Craig.  :thumb:

Totally understand.....sold the Stelvio and bought a 1290 Super Adventure. It is the most advanced bike I have ever ridden as far as rider aids are concerned. And the motor....well it is a beast, 160 HP and weighing in at just over 500 lbs. I can actually push it around in my garage without fear of dropping it. 300 mile range doesn't hurt nothing either. KTM has got it going on,
