The just had the 30th Annual VW Buss Rally in Jerome, AZ last weekend!! It was so crowded up at the Ghost King Mine, that they turned us around due to lack of parking!
Two buddies of mine on motorcycles rolled through a stop sign on the corner, right by the legendary Spirit Room in Jerome and got a hefty $210 fine....EACH!!

I used to drive by a very poor example of that model bus in the WNC mountains. No windows, drivetrain, suspension, every piece of the body was dented or rusty. It had a sign on it that stated "NOT FOR SALE."
It was there for several years, but sometime last year it disappeared.
I guess someone made the owner "an offer he couldn't refuse." :grin:

I had a '68 microbus during my college years at UNH. Had to keep an ice scraper on the dash as a "defroster"!

I've seen that one and the other one he filmed with the helicopter. There is another video of one being pulled out of some dense forest in Europe with a helicopter, and if my memory is correct they had to chop down tree's growing in the bus and around the bus so the helicopter could pull it out without engaging all of the trees.

I had a 72 VW window van way back. It was cool but no way do I ever want another one. The only thing I got out of it was all I ever owned since then was window vans. As for the video,way cool. In the end maybe the easiest way of getting it out. Towing could of been a cluster F. That is something they will remember till there last day here.

My hippy wife grew up with a bay camper that her parent had. They went everywhere in it. then she lived in the tent from it for four years in the TN mountains... She had only moved into a real building (directly above the nature center where Roy the 42 lb snapping turtle lived...) a few wks before we met. After we got here to SC, we bought a decent 71 Westfalia to restore & use plus 3-4 parts campers to accrue all the missing bits. they're like giant EZ-Bake oven on wheels.
It needed more rust repair than I really wanted to do and she would rather camp in a separate tent/camper, so it went away and was replaced with our 1967 Cox Commander. Buyer was pretty stoked to get a 100% complete unrestored camper. I just sold the last few bits from that adventure a few weeks ago.

No, restored to completely as-built spec. Paint job was factory quality.

The local cops must have been pissed, that so many "Hippies" in their hippie vans had rolled in and taken over their sweet little town! :copcar: :copcar: :wink:

Anyone remember the VW engined Amazonas motorcycle that was built in Brazil? I saw an article in a bike mag about it. After playing with the stock version, they stuck a hotrod dune buggy motor in it. Yeehaa!

Just to clarify, Robb bought his from a private seller, not from "Busses & Bugs". I think it was advertised on Hemmings.
