Post by: v85lover on April 12, 2021, 04:38:43 AM
Im on the hunt for insurance for my new to me 1200 sport I've used AAMI for 12 years but thought it was time for change I've tried a couple and all coming in around the mid $50's range AUD per month for full comp

as i wise man once said "If you cant afford insurance you cant afford not to have it"

I'm 30 and had a full licence for 10 years never made a claim.

suggestions welcome......

Currently using Shannons, I was using NRMA veteran and vintage on the Lemans 3 but then went and bought a new bike,  I dud a bundle deal on 2 bikes and a 4wd and it came out less $$ than the 4wd and the Lemans with different companies.
Also Im over 60 and never had claim in over 43 years of riding/ driving.
The deal I got offered when I bought my new bike last year was very good, through Yamaha bike insurance ( Ibought a Triumph off a Triumph dealer), if I hadnt had more than one vehicle I probably would have gone with that.
Do your home work, look at whether they cover riding gear as well.
Cheers

FYI, Shannons are owned by Suncorp.
I use NRMA.
My V7-II was written off after 2 years after hitting a roo.
NRMA completed the claim quickly, efficiently and easily.
And that's what I need from an insurance company.

In 40 years of road riding and around the same number in new bikes I've never comprehensively insured any of them. In that time I've spent around $20,000 in crash repairs and a written off bike. I'm way in front.

Ciao

I use Shannons, yes there are cheaper, although for some of my stuff other people won't cover/don't cover as well.

I used to be with Shannons, but I discovered that they wouldn't cover you if you are riding the bike to work (!). Recreational use only. Maybe that's changed now, but worth checking. I'm with Swann.

I'm with AAMI. When I lost my pannier, they were hard to get moving, but when I threatened Ombudsman and Fair Trading, they were brilliant.

I went with swan, 38 a month covered for 10k BUT no gear cover but I'm not bothered by that at 20-30 less than the big guys as i would just buy my new gear myself

Seconded. 27 years riding, insured my first bike, copped a hit and run, claimed, got the repairs paid for, all good. But never bothered again as the repair cost was what I'd spent by that point on the insurance already. Got too many bikes to fully insure now anyway.

Condon and Skelly for my classic bikes and they covered my Buell's because they no longer make and have low numbers. My FLHTK and 01' V11 is covered under Geico, BUT I think I can move my Rosso Mandello over to Condon and Skelly if I state my case.

I've been with RACV for years now. Partly through intrinsic laziness and partly because the few claims I've had with them have all been handled quickly and cheerfully. One bike was written off (unnecessarily I thought - it only had some broken plastic and a burst radiator hose) but I actually made a small profit out of the whole affair. They also paid for a new helmet and jacket.

Been with Dairyland for years, with up to 22 insured bikes.  Sjopped them a few times, and they still come out on top. Only one claim and it was handled quickly and professionally.
