Do you think some molecular change has occurred in the chrome as it ages or what? It's got 5300 miles
Had mine recently Cerakoated (ceramic) "Glacer Black" at a local shop. http://www.gsdcoatings.com/cmsms/index.php?page=exhaust
That's is very nice, I'm thinking of something like that for the Cali, chrome is the wife's favorite color though...
If you decide to go black, there are some decent spray can coatings on the market now, one of which is VHT Flame Proof 1300-2000°F ceramic coating. The part number for flat black is SP102.
FYI, coat the inside of new chrome pipes and they won't turn blue. I have a 71 Triumph that I poured hi temp grill paint on the inside of the pipes when they were new. 15 years later and the pipes are still shiny chrome. when was the last time you saw that on an old Triumph :) Did the same when I put NOS pipes on my 76 750 Honda, still nice.
Show us your Mille Jim.
Blue=heat. It's mostly normal. However, a big change can indicate something to investigate. A sudden increase in exhaust heat can mean a couple things; An ignition timing change-usually retarded. Chain stretch etc.A lean condition-intake leaksPoor fuel quality-incomplete burn, finishes in exhaust tractTight valve adjustment reduced fuel pressure in EFI systems
Blue is bad? I didn't get that email. What I wouldn't give to have those beautiful blue pipes on this bike.
