Ram Mounts
« on: June 06, 2023, 01:27:45 PM »
Looking to mount my iPhone with waze to the Norge and eyeing using the back of the windshield motor wall surface facing the rider..  I have the X Claw and long enough iphone connect to run  to the battery or 12V power port.     Looking at both of these or recommendations how you did  mount a cell phone or GPS to the Norge?

A RAM mount with a Quad Lock is the most secure...much better than the X Claw.  You'll just need to get a Quadlock case for your Phone, or the holder itself which attaches.

If you're really looking to splurge, you can even get a Charging Quadlock, wired in if needed.

Similar mounting situation for GSP...RAM mounts...both can be mounted using the long screws which hold on the brake/clutch reservoirs...

Thanks Paul,  I was even looking at the Ball holder that mounts under the mirror stalk....  I already own the Claw just looking to repurpose if safe and applicable.  HOW to attach to the Bike is the primary question?   Pictures?

Hi Mike,

Here's a good pic from yesterday...you can zoom in...GPS TomTom 550 mounted on the clutch reservoir, Quadlock mounted on brake reservoir.  Hopefully you can Zoom in on the pick...the RAM mounts come with long screws that go thru molded mounting bracket...just be careful not to over tighten (sufficient to keep the reservoirs from rotation on the bars, but not so much to strip the threads).

Hope this helps!

If you have a modern iPhone and value the camera you'll need to get a mount that has vibration dampening or you'll risk damaging the camera.

I also like wireless phone chargers and found a reasonable priced one on Amazon that is wireless charging (even with a case protective Otterbox case), built like a brick shithouse, holds the phone very securely and is cost effective. It is also quick one hand in/out operation. I do not like the quad lock as you have to stick something to the back of the phone making it thicker and it a two hand operation to mount/dismount.

I also like to use a mirror mount RAM ball adapter for the mount.

RAM Quick Grip is the best I have found.

I used to use the RAM Quick Grips and loved them until I got a new phone, and the vibration killed the camera. One of the reasons I decided to try the BRCovan brand one because it operated much like the Quick Grip had vibration isolation and wireless charging. Best of all worlds.

quad lock is one handed operation, on and off. Was the main appeal over the Ram X-mount which I used fail free for 8 years. Case is the same thickness as any other phone case. Added the anti vibration and it simply moves from bike to bike. Add a single ball on ea bike to accomodate. On the Jackal, a ball on a threaded post direct to the handlebar mount. ON the G5 and the GRiSO, I use a non ram handlebar mount. Fail proof and a fraction of the cost.

I retired my x-frame to car only use, but can say it NEVER failed in Moto use, and I did always use the rubber retainer thingamabob. Should be good.
