New Guzzi Owner Question - Canbus?
« on: April 28, 2021, 09:36:05 AM »
Hi everyone,

As a new Guzzisti taking delivery of my V9 bobber sport next week, I’m considering various upgrades such as an LED headlight unit, or even just an LED bulb and running light as well as potentially some auxiliary lighting and changing the tail light to LED.

Does the MG use canbus like BMW does and if so, do I have to take any special precautions or look for any particular specifications when I order items?

The first of what may seem like silly questions, but aim in your very capable experienced MG owners hands.

Thanks very much

Rick

They do have a form of Canbus but as far as I can tell it's not used in the lamps at all.
As Bad Chad says putting an LED headlight bulb is a bit of a gamble, I had to open up the rear of the bucket to accommodate the fan.
Here's an example of a tail light. plate light bulb

If replacing the turn signal lamps you Don't need to add large load resistors because flashing is a function of the dash, some guzzis have a method of alarming for lamp burn out but I don't believe the V7/9 does.
I just put a bulb in mine.
Superbright have a motorcycle section, here it is with the Bobber in mind.

I tried the fanless LED P43T-38  they suggested in my V7 but in the end went with a fan type from another site.
I didn't try the other one. H4-HLV5-M, one thing with some LEDs they just use half of the reflector resulting in a light that looks like it's only half on.
I have a pair of these pods tapped into the park light, I get comments on how visible they make me.

You can definitly put LED tail, and headlight on a Bobber.  I have an LED tail light on mine, if you go with a LED bulb for the headlight, just make sure what you get will fit in the bucket, some are a bit too long.

And Congrats on the v9, I love mine, hope you do too.

Thanks mate, that's very helpful.
Did you replace the whole tail light or just put a bulb in?
I've watched some YouTube on the headlight and I know what you mean about the rubber boot around the bulb. Although I've just watched one where an Auxito bulb from Amazon was used and the large collar which sits in the housing is detachable which then allows the boot to remain pretty much untouched.
