V7 Sport stuff
« on: May 02, 2022, 01:40:49 PM »
Every once in a while I need to throw a bigger net.
I’m looking for some V7 Sport parts.
V7 sport specific footpeg brackets
Headlight bucket and rim
All four turn signal mounts

If you know the whereabouts to any of this stuff please shoot me a PM. Even if you can put me in contact sitting on some of this stuff I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Bill

Have you put your wants out on "Moto Guzzi Bikes and Parts FS" on FB?  This is where the action is these days for finding (and selling) Guzzi parts.  The page is run by WG's own EldoMike, aka Mike Skaggs who keeps the page running well.

If you stick to the specialty pages you are interested in you can completely avoid the cesspool aspect.

I’ve successfully avoided FB until recently, good advice.

US V7 Sports came with Lucas Turn signals, which can still be had new ( or used) in both original and re-pops. Originals are nicer quality  imo.
Aprilia turn signals are both rare and expensive . The later knockoffs are built cheaper and can  have  crappy chrome finish

I would suggest a "Moto Guzzi" search.  There are many pages from general to specialized.  Visit the ones you may have interest in and join the page.  Don't forget to answer the basic Guzzi knowledge questions from the admin.s  that some (not all) pages require.  It helps them separate the wheat from the chaff (spammers).

There are around 200 Moto Guzzi pages of all sorts.  I have joined about 50 of them.     I just tallied them up.  I was surprised it was that many.

An option for front signal light stems (close but not exact) are Aprilia stems from Bevel Heaven Ducati in California - $47.95 each

you could use them as is or grind off the Aprilia tab and weld or silver solder on the water jet tabs I had made as copies of the stock units, I am not sure of the stem diameter but all the Aprilia cast aluminum signal light bodies I have had are 7/16" thread

https://store.bevelheaven.com/Lights-Signals-CEV-etc/Stem-Aprilia-Turn-Signal/

Option Two - use CEV stems, cut off the threaded end on one end and weld to my repro tabs, then use the CEV lock nut and it will be a dead ringer for stock

https://store.bevelheaven.com/Body-Dress-Up-etc/Indicator-Stalk-CEV-900SS-SSD/

https://store.bevelheaven.com/Fasteners-Kits/CEV-Indicator-Stem-Nut/

After welding the stems / tabs will need to be replated.

I think I still have enough of the pieces that Jim sent me to make another set of front and rear signal mounts. They'd need to be chromed afterwards though. Here are the front mounts, before welding and chrome, that I made for a customer's V7 Sport. The hollow studs duplicate the originals, but are stainless steel.

This is an original rear signal assembly.

Here they are after welding and chroming.

:rolleyes:I guess I need a part of the v7 sport throttle.

I’m looking for the part that the cables go through into the actual throttle housing.

This is the smaller throttle that is used on some loop frames with VHBs I believe.

Also I might need the large rear drum actuating arm.

Thanks again for any help

The original throttle was made by Magura, I sourced the piece you need from Motor West, the same throttle is used on Puch/Sears Allstate 250s. https://www.motorwestmotorcycles.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14&products_id=163

As I get nearer to finishing the weird, small hard to find parts keep popping up.

I’m looking for the splines aluminum clamp on the 850t rear brake lever axle.

Rear turn signal brackets in stock at MG!

If you can find a shift or brake pedal with the same splines, cut off the lever part and shape the rest to suit.

All I can find online:

Harpers came through with the clamp and other junk. Also the little cable splitter showed up. I may be doing test rides in a couple weeks.

In a search for alternative front signal mounts I came across the loop frame brackets.

74a3657558a27" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=326:a666587afda6e89aec2 74a3657558a27

Looks like with different bolts and a spacer I could make it work.

Anybody ever mount something like these to v7 sport or any early Tonti?

I'm not sure those will work - the slot in the end fits over a rib on the Loop lower triple to keep them from rotating. It would be simple enough to make something similar from cold-rolled flat steel, but you'd still have to make the pinch bolt quite tight to keep them from rotating.

Some stems with M8 threads on one end and M10 on the other would be easiest - M8 threads into the headlight and reproduction CEV signals thread onto M10. That's what I did with my Morini.

I thought about doing that with the stems. I have the Lucas signals on hand so I’d like to use them.

I have seen other sports with the signals mounted on the lower tree. Not sure how they did it..?
Back to the drawing board.

Thanks again for the info

Some 850 Le Mans used this signal mount that attached at the rear of the lower triple via the pinch bolts. It's meant for CEV signals though (M10 threads). Part number: 14751351.

It isn't that difficult to remove the Lucas stems and tap the plastic bodies to whatever thread you'd like. I've tapped them to 7/16-14 like the originals.

Likely an easy question for the pros.

I’m using Mr Bender’s amazing wiring kit. However I’m lost as to where the headlight grounds at. It’s a spade connection coming directly from the headlight bucket.
Maybe this should’ve been a ring terminal?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. The headlight shell should have a black plastic block with internal and external male spade terminals. The headlight plug connect to the internal ones and the chassis harness to the external ones.

Edit: From memory, there's a ground wire with spade terminal on one end and M5 ring terminal on the other. Spade to headlight, ring to frame at one of the terminal block mounting screws.

That’s what I thought. I will slap a ring terminal on.

Anybody ever source springs for the old Koni shocks?

MG measured the new Ikon springs and they may fit but are 20mm shorter.

I tried in vain to find some, looked at different manufacture's charts until my head hurt. Finally sent the originals out to be rechromed.

Contact Wolfgang Haerter at Columbia Car and Cycle in Canada, just Google his company name for an email and phone number.
Wolfgang is an IKON dealer and very familiar with KONI and the V7 Sport shocks. He can probably help you out with springs and seals.
