AND it starts, all over again. Hasn't been too long though 3 months. My stuff just starts & runs as it should. But I did drop the carb bowl drain & look, smell, and put together. Perfect stuff. Use of non alcohol works better than what you save. Bikes are the same. This Ariens been good . Made by Husky.

One of the things I am very much enjoying living in NM. My first mow will probably be in June and last untill September. Oh yeah, mowing consists of a five foot wide strip where my front yard meets the street. Mow about once a month. At my previous home I would have been mowing about weekly from March till end of October using a weed wacker, push mower, riding mower and tractor with bush hog. Used up a lot of quality riding time.

Cut the lawn today but I went all electric for those tools, so it's just push a button.  I have to get the old Honda running so I can sell it down the line.

It would be nice to live somewhere that I could be thinking about mowing and motorcycles already. At a minimum, there's still another month to go for me. Mid April is more realistic.

I usually store my power equipment and motorcycles with aviation fuel in the tanks but even before I started doing that I had very little trouble with simply running the carburetors dry and not touching them until spring. I haven't had a carburetor apart for cleaning in ages, although I have had some apart for tuning reasons.

It’s getting tall and shaggy here.  I’ll be mowing & yard-working after I wrap up this stone, probably first of the week.  The only upside (……) to endless mowing this year is I’ve got one less big lawn that’s not at my house to mow pro bono.

We got an EGO for front w/a bagger but still push, takes 15min and nothing on the street. It is still brown for awhile.

We haven’t even had a good snowstorm yet. I’m happy not to think about mowing, mulching or boat prep for at least two more months. More bench time in the garage.

I'll be blowin' not mowin' tomorrow AM. Snowed all day today. But, I keep telling myself that when it's too damn hot to ride where you guys are it will be perfect here in Maine. We ran our window AC unit for two whole days last Summer. Life's all about trade offs.

The only thing green around here are the winter wheat fields.

But, I can see evidence of spring....  and hear it.   The little peepers in the pond were really singing yesterday.

As warm as it's been this winter it would be long until I'm mowing again and glad for it. Bought a 60" Hustler zero turn last year to replace the old 48" Hustler. Takes 11 minutes to mow my grass down from about 17.

Snow blower has sat unused all winter and it doesn't bother me. Older i get the more I dislike snow and dealing with it.

Since you asked, this is what I use on those hard to reach areas!  Addition plus is there is zero chance of cutting yourself accidentally:

Much cheaper than buying razor blades that hurt when they get dull!  Ouch!

I solved 80% of my lawn mowing headaches as well as reduced my annual mowing time by 80% simply by setting up my mowers so they cut the grass at about 5.5-6" high.  Some mowers won't cut that high without modification, but usually the modifications are quite easy.

Cut the lawn to a height of 5.5-6" high.  Then let it grow to a height about 9-10" before you cut again.

You'll find in the time it takes before you need to cut your lawn again, your neighbors, who are obviously bored and have nothing better to do with their time, have cut their lawns 4-5 times!

Of course this will depend on what kind of grass you have in your yard.

I can't count how many times my neighbors have asked me "Why is your lawn so green?  No one else's lawn looks that healthy!"

I always reply "I think you are cutting your lawn waaaaay too short.  Set your mower to cut as high as it can.  Then see what happens."

I'm going to have to mow this week.  I haven't serviced my mower in a couple or three seasons, actually haven't even checked the oil.  I guess I'll do that.  Last time I changed it, the oil was surprisingly clean.  Prolly dump the gas and oil, clean the air filter, might even buy a plug.

Gotta get rid of the three feet of snow on the lawn before I can mow. I saw a couple of robins yesterday. They are pretty much on time but the snow leaving is way late. I just saw a blurb for the news that the snow pack is at a record level. Major drought to major snow in one year.

How did you reduce you cutting time/sessions? Grass generally grows at the same rate no matter where it was last cut. So cuttings 4 inches off grass that was last cut to 4" is no different then cutting 4 inches off grass that was last cut to 6 inches.

Personally I think 10 inch long grass would look bad to begin with and even worse after being mowed because the grass would be pushed over from the wheels and foot marks if using a walk behind.

The only ways to reduce cutting time are mow faster or mow with a bigger mower. I did both.

My old neighbor used to do this. Their grass would be around 10+ inches in length not because they were concerned with the health of the lawn buy laziness. THey lawn look amazing when they would mow it once every other month. It looked like a hay field with thick wind rows that would that would dry out clump and shade any grass underneath so it struggled to grow. It was no where near a healthy lawn.

I'm reducing my cutting times by leaving the grass tall enough, that I can let it grow more between cuttings.  I suspect my neighbors are cutting at about 3", so if the grass grows above 4" before they cut it again, the grass is so short it can not hide the clippings.  So they cut their lawn 4 times as often as I do.  I assume they are doing this primarily because they are bored and they have nothing better to do.

But 6" grass after being cut, easily hides the 4" that was cut off the top.  The other advantage of tall grass is that it "shades" the lawn.  Surprise, surprise, my lawn is still green while theirs is browning all summer long.

I suspect some grass types mulch better than other types, and some mower blades mulch better than other blades.

If you experiment, you just might save yourself a lot of time and effort.

It always fascinates me that for some people, the correct height of grass is whatever their father thought it should be when they were kids.  Almost like a profession of the proper faith.  My neighbors are funny.  They admit my lawn looks better than theirs, but they can bring themselves to cut it at a taller height.
