Can someone tell me what there is to do in Scott City Kansas, other than standing in the shade of the grain elevator, watching the trains go by ??

Entertainment in and around Scott City is not dramatic;  it is not a busy place.

But, you can hear the latest grain prices at breakfast in the Scott City café.

Monument Rocks is not far…

…neither is Castle Rocks (you'll not see snow during the National).

But, expect roads like this:

Cimarron Grasslands isn’t too far, either.

This sort of view is not common in much of the world, but then, much of the world isn’t bothering to come see it, either.  So…

Well, I really don't care what there is to do in Scott City. I don't go to Guzzi rallies to do what ever is available in the current location where someone has gone to the trouble and hard work it takes to put on a Guzzi event. Sure, if its a really cool and and outstanding location more the better. But really if that's all I was interested in I can go where ever I want at any given time to enjoy the local attractions. If that's what you travel for more power to you and knock yourself out. What I and my family have done for over 40+ years is to spend time with the people and friends we have made being part of the Guzzi family for these many years. We have gone all over the US and Canada and yes some spots have been way better than the others but the time spent with the people has always been the best part of the deal. On the other hand being Nebraska natives the summer weather in the Kansas plains doesn't scare us much. We put in our reservations for a nice air conditioned motel room last year.  :thumb: Looking forward to seeing those who brave the trip and having a good time.

48th MGNOC cancelled
« Reply #36 on: July 04, 2020, 10:19:52 AM »
The 48th MGNOC National has officially been cancelled.

Sending this email to all current MGNOC members because of the importance of the yearly National.

A few days ago, I got a call from Don Rome, the rally master for this year’s National. We discussed the National, of course, and then later in the day he called me again saying cancelling this year’s National was the hardest thing he has ever done and he had looked forward to this rally for a long time. I could hear his stress over the phone. Up until that day, Don and I were thinking “full steam ahead” for the rally.

In the very beginning of the Coronavirus ordeal, health officials were considering that the heat of the summer might make things better and some businesses and activities actually started opening; however, the virus seems to be getting worse during recent months. Last I heard, the city of Scott City, Kansas, and the local county of Scott were still telling us we could move forward; but, the state of Kansas is now warning us, in so many words, to slack off. Don and I wondered what would happen, if a few days before the rally, the state of Kansas restricted all large gatherings. If that happened a few days before the event, it would really be bad for those coming to attend to arrive but nothing could take place because we were forced to cancel.

Also, part of the problem is that if no more than a handful of participants show up, Don will be out several hundred additional dollars - he’s already out hundreds. Only about 35 people have preregistered. The caterers might back out, anyway, at the last minute if we only have 50 people show up. In the beginning, we were thinking more in the line of up to 300 people. Not to mention the building, which is huge, air-conditioned, and costly to rent. If only 50 to 75 people show up, that would be a disaster. Don has something like $800 in the pins and that’s only part of the preparatory expenditures. Can’t eat those, so plan to sell one by one to anyone interested.

We feel it’s better to give a decent notice rather than shut things down after people are on their way.

Keeping this serious explanation short and not talking about other goings on here.

Surely things will be more back to normal next year when we have our National in New Hampshire. Then maybe (?) the following year Don will be willing to try again.

That's too bad. And on a day when we celebrate our independence too   I hope and pray this madness will come to an end soon.

I'm not that tech savy, but could someone set up a way to send donations to help defray Don's loses? Alternatively, does he have a Paypal account?

I asked Frank this very question.  He is going to put a link/address in the next MGNOC newsletter.  I'll post it here if no one beats me to it.  Yeah, I'll send Don a small donation as well.

Same here.  Got the email today too.  Shifting my plans to NV state rally and Lake Henshaw.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉

The National rally for this year has been CANCELLED.

I'll sticky this for a few days for those that have planned vacation, hotels, etc so they can see and make adjustments.  I'm one of them. I was planning on going.
