Is it possible to plate Stainless Steel over regular steel?

If say I wanted to plate an old T3 style headlight ring with SS instead of chrome, is that possible?

Never heard of doing that , and considering it is mostly the chrome content in stainless that makes it corrosion resistant really not sure what the advantage would be .

Just wondered if this is an option out of curiosity. More of a metal-matching type thing

What about nickle?  It's the base for chrome and stainless has a higher nickle content - maybe the sheen is closer to ss?

I would suggest Nickel as well, looks nice polished up.
You can do it yourself at home very easily too.

stainless should polish until it looks like chrome.

Great suggestion on the nickel. Didn't think of that.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the answer is NO. It's a steel alloy so doesn't come in a form that could be used as a coating.

Nickel on copper base layer.

All my race bike frames are chromoly tube with copper base then nickel finish.

Has something to do with way the nickel adheres to the base metal.

Talk to the guys at the local plating shop.
