From what I'm seeing, it might be a decent deal at $2000.

ie., it's grossly overpriced.

Meanwhile, another thread shows a clean, original, low-mile Silver Sport for $2,000 less.

This one sounds like a mess.

Man if that's worth 5, my Centauro is a steal at 10, but I'd probably take less :)

It was $8,500+ a few weeks ago.

I will never understand when people put that something is broken, but it's "a simple fix" in the ad... If it's so simple, then fix it and get more money out of the bike!

Ok I tried but I don’t get it...
Every day we see guys that sink $$$ into things like Stelvio’s, 1400 Audace’s, Norge’s and a plethora of other gargantuan things that are too big for them and so they are dumped, with a consequent huge monetary loss and nary an eyebrow is raised..

Here is a thing that may very well be a bit over what all the armchair critics think it is “worth” and they ruefully rub the back of their collective necks and issue sage advice as to why it should be a bit cheaper and label it a “money pit..”
All bikes are money pits.
If this poor orphan is to be viewed as “not worth the outlay”, why was Fence Post Guzzi Guy, quite rightly lauded as having done a wonderful thing to bring that V7 Sport thing, back to life.

How about we look at something like this, as a chance for someone to embark upon a journey of discovery and bring this thing back into existence.
When he guns it through a canyon pass and bursts out into the light, the fact that it once looked like this

 will only enhance it’s desireability.
Again, so what if it ends up owing the new owner more than it’s market value.
I’ll bet my flat tappets, that it’s a better jigger in the real world than a V7 Sport and they send everybody gooey in the nether regions at the very mention of their name.
Also what’s all this BS about a bike becoming “very valuable and collectable” but will “never be for sale..”
Well, if it’s never going to be for sale, then it’s monetary value is immaterial.

Just as a test case..
What is this “worth”

with 196,000 km on the clock ?
I’ll give y’all a clue, it’s about twice to three times as when it was new (to me), but I’d be flat out getting AUD 4,000 for it if I tried to sell.

Well JJ, if it’s “a steal at 10...”
Why would you take less ?
Because it’s only worth what you can get, so conversely if you can get 10, then it’s “worth” 10, but you will take less because you will be offered less.
As an example..
These stinking old Vincent’s are not a better bike now than when they were built, yet you’ll need $100,000 to get into the game.
Armchair critics drive the price up artificially and then the populous follow with their dribble cloths at the ready..
I wouldn’t pee on one if it was on fire.

Yes, indeed...and it all comes down to two (2) basic points:

1. CMV - Current Market Value... and
2. Supply & Demand...

....and like the stock market and real estate market...prices go up and down... :thumb:  :boozing:

QUOTEI would'nt pee on one if it was on fire...

C'mon now...I rather like old Vincents, aka. "The Plumbers Nightmare" - - but I could never afford one...

See, this is my point.
I have done a bit of tart up work on my V85 and probably damaged it’s resale value.

But I would not swap it for a new one..
I will be dead before it’s sold, so it’s perceived “value” is totally immaterial and it’s intrinsic value (desireability), has gone up in my eyes because I have some of myself invested in it...

I think what you did on your V85 looks GREAT!  Forget about re-sale value!

Enjoy it...ride it...have fun! :thumb:

That's different, you're not trying to sell the bike. I have a LMIII that's been modified too. Most purists probably gag at the thought. But it's a rider not a collector.
