Nice review, thanks. :thumb:

I did notice the lambda's are right up near the heads. Probably better emissions control I guess???

John Henry

O2 sensors are mounted as close to the heads as possible for quickest warmup at cold starts. It's about the dumbest of the emissions regulations there are. They are basically trying to reduce 0.00000001% of emissions during WARMUP.

A bunch of higher end vehicles now do things on cold startup to rapidly heat the cat-cons. Our new Defender runs the supercharger and dumps fuel for the first 5-10 seconds. A bunch of new Porches do something similar. Both result in it sounding like the owner is over-revving the motor like a prat as the exhausts growl and the motor revs un-necessarily high ON A COLD START. DumbASSES....

...and this from a relatively hippy like environmentalist, but jeeezzzz enough is enough we're not living in smog anymore and there are better ways to achieve results.

I feel the same way about my V7III

The only thing I don't like is the seat height...why can't we get a factory taller seat to take it to 32" or so?  Us tall folks would appreciate it.

I was fortunate enough to purchase a stock seat that another owner had reworked for that after he traded his V7 in.

I don't know how popular such a mod would be for the OEM, but I can attest that it works wonders when done.

Someone now needs to come up with a 2021 version of a Windjammer, slightly smaller and lighter.  Rode all over the country in the 70s and 80s on a Yamaha XS 750 with one.

I'd call that a glowing review.

I'll say this once and try to shut up about it going forward, but I just don't understand the naming/badging theology here. An 850 called the V7. I appreciate that the o'all bike is cosmetically very similar...but...

My (limited) brain rebels everytime I look at that tank graphic.

I'll add, I don't have any brilliant suggestions, either.

get a good custom seat maker to raise your seat.  It will be much superior to anything the OEM's would offer.  Those seats are the cheapest construction and materials available.

Oh well, it should be called V75 ever since the late 60s, so it doesn't really matter that it's now a V7 850, no? ;)

Yeah, very positive review.
I hope our local lockdown ends soon so I can see for myself.

Cheers,
D.
