I've heard they just drop a foot off the right/starboard/off side peg and wave with their leg.

I heard that it's not their leg they're waving.

Saw a guy do that to me once and I was afraid he was a long distance rider with a tube running down his leg.  Quickly flicked the bike to the outside of the lane.
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

So, I'm wondering if I need a left side bolt, does that mean left side as I sit in the seat looking forward, or left as if I'm in front of the bike looking forwards?

If you talk to a Brit they may use terms line " Far side and near side"

Have seen it done, although they could have just been shaking out leg cramp. :undecided:

I wave with my left hand, as do most (unless the rider is on a Harley in which case they look staunch and don't acknowledge other riders.)

So is that where the term "shake a leg" originated ?

As a Brit I think its time I joined in properly
a) If we wave we use our left hand but it's much cooler to just nod
b) Leg waving is generally kept for when filtering. It's a good plan to keep your hands on the bars incase the next cager decides to attack you
c) Water goes down the plug hole the right way
d) Near side means left over here Does it mean right in other parts of the world

It can't if it's on the side stand, it'll be leaning away from the rider.  That's why we ride on the left!

Nope, "near side" is always the left side as you are riding, "off side" is always the right ....

You Yanks and Aussies are all talking s@*t! Here in Kiwiland we use the right side of the road which is the left, rather than the wrong side which is the right. We sit on our bikes and the earth (always) moves beneath us, unlike that other activity where it only moves sometimes.

When waving we use our throttle hand because we are going to have to slow down for a corner soon anyway, except for Harley riders who dare not remove a hand from the bars at all when riding.

Now, what was the original question again?
