Another Tommaselli throttle question
« on: February 08, 2021, 05:23:29 PM »
I looked in the manual for this but no luck....On the bottom of the Tommaselli throttle are two screws....one with a spring.  I assume one is a friction screw but what is the other one for....the one with the spring?  Should I adjust one to make the throttle a little easier to turn?  It does turn but seems a little hard like too much friction.  Thanks for all advice for this noob.

The big screw w/spring is the friction screw, small one is a set screw to lock it on handlebar.
There is a pad on inside that sits on the big screw w/spring & tightens to the twistgrip.

Thank you for this...I actually looked to see if there was a hole in the bar for the set screw but did not see one...I Will look again....also should there any lube on the white plastic drum in the throttle housing or is it just dry?  The bike is a 78 Convert.

I use grease on where cables grooves are but not where the pad from that screw rubs. No hole for set screw, it is pointed to dig into the bar.

On the 2C throttle, there is also a travel limiting screw with lock nut.

Charlie,

I have the big spring loaded screw which I understand is the friction and a second set screw on the bottom....what does the travel limiting screw do and where is it located?  Thank you.

In this photo:

you can see the set screw (socket head), friction screw (knurled with spring) and travel limiting screw (slotted). I'm guessing that it's purpose is to limit the throttle rotation to opening the carbs fully and no more.

Charlie, your correct on the limiting screw. I believe it's there so when your W/O you don't pull too hard on the cable and damage it. Or.... maybe some carbs could be over rotated?

The last one was set at factory as restrictor for running in
You would not believe the amount of bikes bought to me to tune ( sometime the full monty) that were more than 5 years old and had never seen more than 3/4 throttle.
Bet some are still that way now
It also puts a nice dent in Le Mans tanks in a minor fall
Best plugged with short bolt IMHO, I don’t believe anyone has ever broken a throttle cable by stretching it with twistgrip, I’ve been trying for 42 years on a Guzzi, another few before that with Amal twistgrips

The one I just made cables for has the limit screw on top facing you if cables come out the bottom. 180* from the pic above, have seen them both ways for limit screw, may be a different model of Tomaselli. Looks just like my T I had.
