This Alpha is what makes the Evora such a desirable sports car. I would love to afford the 2021 Lotus Evora GT.

I talked my way into a test drive of one of these (dealer had 2 that just sat there) Very cool, but a torture device to drive on all but smooth rides, was worse than the stock shocks on my V7ii  :boozing:

I'd say a Jaguar; a company that had a big racing past, got out of racing and now produces elegant, heavy machines with a sporting feel.  Something comfortable that can go at a brisk pace, but its not really fast.  note:  I'm actually not familair with any Jaguars beyond the V-12 XKE my father had in 1974 -5 . . . .

If it’s a car that we’re talking about that emulates the quirky world of Moto GUZZI I think it has to be Italian, have a long history of race success, limited production numbers, design elements that have remained in tact over the decades….. not the most expensive or the fastest of its peers but beloved by thousands who just get ‘it’, I can think of only one vehicle that ticks all the boxes….Alfa Romeo.

I quite agree!  Alfa Romeos!  Not a supercar, but perfect in their way.  As well as a chance to channel one's inner Dustin Hoffman...

The problem with Alfa Romeo is that currently there is only a sedan and SUV available. That's fine if that's what one wants, but to me Alfa was always about roadsters/spiders and coupes...

Chinese....................

Hardly. My XK was made in Coventry England. While Ford did instill some QC into the manufacturing process, it was designed and built by Brits. Jaguar is now owned by TATA, an Indian company.

I’ve experienced not one issue in several years of ownership. Maintenance is important, and I have a very competent indie shop.

I am looking at the SUV...  3000# towing capacity-- just enough for a pontoon boat on an aluminum trailer!

It's got to be Jaguar, founded in 1935 and going out of business since 1936.

First you look where it should be, then you look where it might be, then you look where it won't be, then you look where it mustn't be.  And when you find it you discover "that's where it should have been."

Alfa Romeo is the Moto Guzzi of cars.

Very old company now owned by Italian conglomerate.

Multiple world racing championships during the glory days.

Quirky, interesting,  fun to drive.

Sparse USA dealer network.

Yeah, I agree.

As Rocker described it I agree, but there isn't a modern version of that vehicle that comes close to a new Guzzi.

I may be biased, but the Jeep Wrangler could be it, pulls like a tractor, not overly complex but at times can be quirky...

And, the Jeep Wrangler does have some really stupid design aspects (rear seat access, namely) as do some Moto Guzzi models.

problem solved:
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a15370910/theres-nothing-wrong-with-the-fiat-600-that-a-moto-guzzi-v-twin-cant-fix-lemons-insanity/

Looking at this......

Mating a Moto Guzzi engine to a VW transaxle would seem pretty easy......
then a Volkswagen Beetle front axle.......
custom tube frame or buy a dune buggy kit.....
all that would be left to do is fuel delivery, electrics, and control cables.

A big Guzzi Engine Turing 7000 rpm would be a hoot.

2023 Z car with 6 speed manual of course.  Checked one out this past Saturday.  Also checked out the new mid engine vette.  The vette was too claustrophobic for me.

But in reality the Miata was the most engaging of all the cars I have driven in the last 5 years.

The XK is the real deal Jag......  I ALMOST bought an XK a few years ago, a beautiful Sport X model, but I wanted something new as I plan to keep it long term and as a DD. I have a buddy with the last steel body XF, the car is fabulous..... I've always wanted one of the XJ sedans....

Bulldog,

Go for it. These last alloy bodied XK’s are very underrated, possibly because they are seldom seen. The 4.2 from 2007-2009 is an excellent mill. Unfortunately, they did not offer a manual transmission, just the six speed ZF paddle shifter.

Title Says it all......

I had a 1997 E36 BMW M3 for 20 years and LOVED it............... In 2020 I bought a Mustang Bullitt and it is fantastic, but like the FJR 1300 I had before I was converted to Guzzi in 2015, I am BORED unless I am driving at Go to Jail or Cemetery speeds.....

So.............. What is the Moto Guzzi of Cars???? What has character, performance and life in a modern car?  Don't say Miata...... That's a girls car................ ..

The 4C can be had in the $50,000 - $60,000 range.  Nothing compared to the 8C, which commands hundreds of thousands.

I'd go with something like this:

https://thekneeslider.com/smart-car-plus-gsxr-equals-smartuki-a-very-smart-car/

Relatively inexpensive, and parking in the "FUEL EFFICIENT VEHICLE ONLY" parking spots would be a plus, and getting the jump on other drivers from red lights would be very entertaining.

It's tough to find an exact analog, but here is an angle no one has mentioned yet: Toyota.  Neither company is cutting edge, and both roll out old designs year-after-year.  Hell, even when Toyata went with new tech in the original Prius, they avoided doing anything cutting edge and made it heavy and slow.

Toyota even made a beautiful new car once with the 2000GT, but unlike Guzzi with the V7, the company isn't smart enough to base a new car on it.
