new member approval
« on: November 19, 2022, 05:48:50 PM »
Friend of mine just bought a nice V700 and he is trying to join the forum. Any ideas why it has been over a week and he has not been approved? He has not gotten any response to two email enquiries.

Thanks,

Tobin

This can be normal. It takes a while for the administration to process a potential new member’s application and approve it.
Sometimes patience is a virtue 👍

It’s a cunning stunt to see if you are made  of the “right stuff” to be a Guzzisti.
It’ll stand you in good stead, if you ever have to stand around in a backwater Guzzi shop in Italy at 1:00 - 2:00 pm waiting to be served…
EVERYTHING slows down around then, Guzzisti are not heavily into instant gratification.
But your point is valid and well made… :thumb:

This round of approvals was on me. I've been down for a week with the worse case of Strep that I've ever had. Almost had to have an emergency tonsilectomy thing as my throat was almost completely closed and I went a solid 4 days without any real sleep at all. So member approvals was the last thing on my mind.

We're all caught up now. Apologies to all the dozen or so new members that were delayed due to this. Let me be among the first to say "Welcome".

Thanks,

I had a bad case of strep once while on vacation, I had to go to an acute care center in the middle of the night. No fun. Get well.

Thanks Luap! I figured there was a good reason for the delay and I hope you are feeling better. Are you guys ready for some seriously arcane V700 questions? Some interesting differences in our two bikes have popped up and we are hoping you guys can sort them out!

Here it is!  Can't wait to get it sorted out.  At a minimum, engine needs to be-resealed.  Those SS1s are beautiful, but I might install VHBs for practicality.

Looks great.  How much has or has not been done to it?  Have the original chrome cylinders been replated or replaced?

Welcome to WG and welcome to the V700 owners club!

SS1s are kind of finicky and generally result in less mpg, but they look so right on a V700!  Mine are serviceable and staying on the bike despite their shortcomings.

Welcome, I bought 3 of them in 93, 2 are apart & 1 I ride all the time NOT a hanger queen, runs great w/VHB's. I sold all my originals for big money. I'm not fiddling w/crap that don't work well, not even w/accell pump kit in them. My bikes have to perform not look pretty.
Original paint, just another old bike.

It seems very original and appears to be mostly unmolested.  Still has the chrome bores.  Odometer showing 16,000 miles

Appears to have had a cosmetic restoration @ 10-15 years ago (I'm basing that on the tire date codes of 2007) -- both frame & bodywork repainted.  Seat was recovered, but not done very well.

Motor is leaking front & rear.  The speedo's mph plastic ring has been cracked, but the top glass is not broken, so was probably replaced.  I plan to send it out for refurbishment.

I haven't done much disassembly yet.  Still working on game plan.  I want it to be reliable & oil-tight.  Not too fussed on cosmetics.

I'm assuming it will be easier to remove the motor/transmission for a complete seal/gasket job -- any special guidance on this?

I wouldn't so much as crank the starter until you sorted out the old chrome bores.
