Jackal Fuel Filter Crush Washer Questions
« on: February 26, 2017, 03:06:53 PM »
Help me out here. I finally got a new fuel filter into my Jackal, but I have questions about washers.

The fitting in front of the fuel filter has what appears to be an aluminum washer on the front end, under the head of the bolt that runs through it. Do I need to replace this with a copper crush washer? Also, was there originally a crush washer BEHIND this fitting, against the filter? Getting the Jackal apart was such a headache I let it go for a week or two, and while I'm pretty sure I would not throw out a washer, it is conceivable that I did.

From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉

I recently did my EV.  The filter came with a bag of three aluminium sealing washers.

What I wanted to know is whether the front of the filter has TWO washers or ONE.

From a tiny diagram I found online, it looks like it's two.

New question: if I install the filter (with new washers) and tighten it and then I have to loosen it in order to turn it a few degrees, and then I tighten it again, will the new crush washers still work?

They better, because I have had it with working on this filter. I've never changed a fuel filter on any other bike, but it has to be easier than this.

Two washers at the front and one at the rear.  I rotated the filter onto the rear fitting then fitted the banjo fitting, then tightened everything.  I recall loosening the banjo once to get the filter into a better position.

The washers are not crush washers but sealing washers, allowing the fittings to slide up tight against one another.  Undoing them a couple of times doesn't seem to hurt.  I've replaced the filter on a Stone (above pic) and the EV and never had them leak.

Many thanks. Now I have an even dumber question. I'm trying to put the tank on, and I have a cable connection that doesn't seem to go anywhere. You can see it in the attached photo, in front of the air cleaner, to the left of the upper frame tube.

I can't find a damn thing that plugs into it, and of course I have no photos from disassembly. Surely there was something plugged into this. Clues would be appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about that.. it's probably for something the Ev (like the electric fuel tap) has that a Jackal does not. they use the same harness on all the various models.

You can see the same connector in my photo, tied to the other side of the frame.  No idea what it might be for.
