Eldorado / Ambassador exhaust port inserts
« on: August 01, 2022, 04:50:04 PM »
Does anyone know where I can find head exhaust port repair kits, for the big header nut that threads into the head, these require milling out the damaged threads in the head and welding in the new threaded aluminum plugs.
I can’t find them on the usual suspects web sites.

A header pipe nut loosened on my Eldorado and the threads are ruined in a head, I know a welder who can weld the inserts for me. I could make some inserts but I would prefer to buy the inserts and not attempt a good inside thread cut with my very limited lathe skills.

If you still have threads in the heads and the nut just won't tighten up, and you have the original brass nuts. You can take a socket or the like that is just slightly larger than the ID of the nut and hammer it in so that it expands a bit. A few tries and it might just solve your issue.

It can be done to other materiel nuts, just not as easy as the brass ones.

You might have to give the shops a call to see if they still have the inserts. I'm pretty sure MG carried them in the past.

What was the convenional wisdom back  in the day? I think Norton header nuts and perhaps another brand (Ducati?) were the "first and second oversize" for the OEM Guzzi nuts.

I went a different route with my old girl.
I installed a couple of 6mm rods to which I attach 3/16" J bolts that hold the stripped nuts in place.
Its been that way for a couple of years now.
