76 Convert Refresh
« on: August 06, 2022, 02:34:02 PM »
I've posted several times (and hijacked a couple threads.... sorry). I thought I had a thread dedicated to this refresh but it started 2 years ago, and I cant find it.

Here is how it started after being cleaned up. Don't let the paint fool you, she was a 20 footer. Paint was rough.

Took the bike down to frame and chassis, replaced lines, new wiring harness. The Vetter, King/Queens seat and Rear Rack are available if anybody wants.

End product of Phase 1.

Last year, I wanted to freshen the paint, and decided on red (SWMBO approved)  Got the part painted earlier this year and just started putting back on. Swapped out the rear fender, and put parts on last week.

Got the Sidecover Grills from MG this week, and put them and the pinstripes today. Had some 3M blackout wrap to fill the center area of the grill. I was going to do the full area behind the grill, but decided on the center. Next up is the tank and side bags. Very happy with how it is turning out.

Can't wait to get some of these Kentucky roads under the Magic Carpet.

Beautiful job, Bulldog9!  I really like how your solo bike turned out.  :thumb: I am also working on a 76, red one, and plan to re paint it. I hope it turns out as nice as yours.

Mine when I got it in Oct. 2016.

I started work on it Jan. 2017 and had it roadworthy by April. Looked like this at first, I thought I'd give the SP fairing a try.

Didn't like it, so removed it and installed the stock 'bars and windscreen. Mounted up some Pelican cases in place of the original 'bags. May 6th, 2017.

Eventually added a Rack Factory luggage rack, a $30 Givi knock-off trunk and some LED driving lights. It's been that way ever since.

I've been thinking about putting on a larger screen as the flyscreen is not great for long rides. What options are out there?

The Bug Bit, had to finish.... Wanted simple and clean. May add more striping, but will let it sit for now. Felt like the bags needed something, wanted to go with something different than the Standard Guzzi Logo, so went for the tricolor badge. Also put one on the tank above the filer.

Now if the rain would let up......

I've still got the Bench seat, and bracket for two up riding, takes 5 minutes to put on with my mods, but Mrs Bulldog likes the Corbin on the 1200 Sport. I really like the Harpers Solo Seat. Is well made and very comfortable.

Quick 100 miles after church today, mix of state highway and twisty back roads. When I got to 50 miles out I realized I forgot to load up my kit, tools, pump, extra fuel, etc, so I turned back. Bike performed flawlessly, used in both gear ranges, blew out the cobwebs, held 70 for 10 miles or so, no issues. Stopped for a bottle of water, hot restart was perfect, no drips, ATF fluid temp was under 180, and refuel said 37 MPG. I think she is ready for the Guzzi Breakfast next week (if they are holding it). I really need to add a TPMS monitor, I have it on all my other bikes, and missed it. Amazing the peace of mind it brings.
