Does anyone know if it is the equivalent of this?ENI i-RIDE PG RACING 10W-60Same viscosity and SAE rating, but wondering about additives. I'm looking for alternatives. Thanks for your help.
To answer your question directly, it's NOT equivalent. Although I know that some folks don't know or care about API service classes, I do care, since they reflect the amount of anti-wear additives. The latest Redline 10W-60 is specified to be API service class SN/SM/SL/CF, whereas the eni i-RIDE oil is service class SG, a class with a higher amount of tappet wear reducing ZDDP. More recent (higher letters) service classes have reduced ZDDP at the behest of auto makers who are concerned about the effect of ZDDP on the longevity of catalytic converters. Take your pick, longer lasting tappets or longer lasting catalytic converters.
The ship has sailed. It's $77.00
Thanks for the heads up, Man. Thats an awesome price! I just ordered 2 six packs at $17.05 each incl. shipping , comes out to $2.85 / qt. Cheaper than the rotella I usually use. I think this oil will be great in my hydro engined Cali, I think I will try to order a couple more , my son just told me to get some for his KTM.Rick.
That formula change is an important detail. I hate it when they change a product's property sheet while keeping the same name. When things like oil and paint are concerned, a change in formula should require a name change. The good news is that I'd started kicking myself for not opening this topic sooner. But now that I know the stuff is NOT SG RATED I wouldn't use it anyway, so I feel better. Chances were I'd have joined the feeding frenzy on the assumption that it was the same old (SG rated) stuff.
Rick, you need 5W 40 in your hydro engine.
