70 Ambassador breather box
« on: March 25, 2019, 08:47:37 PM »
My Ambo breather box flapper is froze. I’m going to spray it down and try to loosen it up. I have read about a Guzzi check valve/PCV valve, is this needed? If it’s needed what is the model number on this valve and where can I get it?  This valve is put into the breather box tube?

Thanks for the help,

You want one or the other - the flapper or the ball valve - not both. If you can free up the flapper without damaging it then that's the best way to go IMO. If it's stuck and won't free up, you can disable it by prying the stud the disc slides on to one side. However, then you need to get the spring (and preferably) the disc out. The spring will shake out, the disc will require cutting the box open.

The ball valve is from a Tonti Guzzi: http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=71&products_id=1007 It fits into the breather tube on the top of the engine, not into the breather box.

Anyone have a technique for freeing up the breather flapper?

Is it stuck from rust or gummed up? If it's a rust issue, you might try filling the 'box with EvapoRust and letting it soak in a warm place. If it's gummed up, flushing the 'box with Berkebile 2+2 Gum Cutter should help.
