Sorry Guzzistajohn.  I enjoy the outdoors and like I said in the main title, it was NGC.  With that out there, I also said I wanted a tactical light to add to my Guzzi tool bag.  I prefer to sleep outdoors as much as possible and avoid motels.  Sometimes you gotta break a few eggs ....

They are not very powerful, but in a pinch most cell phones can use the flash as a continuous light source.
The big advantage a cell phone has is that most people always have one on them.

I worked in the security business most of my adult life and used just about every tactical flashlight available. The one that is the best combination of performance, convenience, reliability, and affordability is the Streamlight TL-2 LED. The Lithium batteries have a ten year shelf life, it's very bright, it sports an anti-roll head, aluminum body, and a belt-clip, and offers many accessories...all for about $65. Highly recommended...

I bought a half dozen Ultrafire C8 flashlights from a EBay seller last year. Gave a bunch away as Christmas gifts to family. Runs on Lion 18650 cells. I got those and chargers off amazon. Super bright. Used every day in my work and to walk the dog at night. Lights up tree tops 100 yards away. In the fog, it can be used as a light saber. Under $10 with shipping each. But shipping from China takes about 5 weeks. Great light for little money.
yeah, I might be addicted to brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want.

these are all incredible suggestions.  I'm shocked to see powerful lights under $20 bucks.  I know I'll need a light if I'm stuck in the dark out in the country

Nothing to do with flashlights.....

at all ....

Nope.

But my Canon digital camera can take easily take pictures in very low light. I have used the cameras display as an low light enhancer and can see much more details with it than the naked eye! Amazing. Remember the 6 Million Dollar Man with the bionic telephoto eyeball? Dont need no flashlight!

and....

Fenix e 11 in my [pockets all day long, single aa Nimh rechargeable
Fenix PD 35 in my off work pocket, eye scorchingly bright, single 18650, 5 settings, top quality.
as an aside,  I have collected a ton of 18650 from laptop battery packs. When one cell dies  and that pack wont charge, I pull them apart and test each 18650 toss the bad ones and add the others to the stash.

For most general working in low light I have gone to a headlight.  Just about any brand will do.  Mine is a Coleman.  I find it indispensible for camping.

I've had this one for a couple of years, it has 3 brightness settings the brightest is 310 lumens @ 218 yds for 2 hrs. Also SOS morse code, strobe light and the sharp bezel around the front for jackin' up someones melon if needed. It was 30 to 35 bucks at batteries plus.

This is BS.  We are talking about a freaking flashlight FCS.  However it's been a bit of an education.  Have a birthday coming up and based on the info from this thread sent an email to number one wife and son my birthday request.

PS: My flashlight is going to cost more than your flashlight.

LOL

Those cheap ones I get at Costco have a low and high setting as well as a 4hz flash mode, just in case you want to induce sickness in your 'target'.  :)

Proper use of flashlight :)

That bike shakes too much.   :P

I've got one of those.  It came back from loan with the bezel/focus end missing.  It's the third one I've had.  The first two had faulty base switches. and would fade and die even with fresh batteries.  When I stepped up to the counter with the first failed one the counter guy handed me another packaged one without even looking up or asking why I was there.  The second time he asked if I wanted to try another or just get a refund.  I still use it.  It throws a crapload of light downrange, but without the focusing ability the light is total scatter.  They were $35 when I bought mine.  I would try something diffrerent next time.

FWIW.  I own 6, yes 6 of these.  One in cars, bikes, work, bedroom nightstand, etc.  They are awesome.  2500 lumens, water proof, rechargeable, and $10.

I love them.  Highly recommend.

Thanks admin!  Picked up one of those and they ARE awesome.  Bigger than than the other flashlights I was looking at but as bright or brighter.   There were other great suggestions, I like the clip on light.

I'm a flashlight geek. Here's one I got last month. Super bright with a real light focusing mechanism. Thumb and forefinger will slide it back and forth easily. Takes the larger 26650 Li cells. Those cost more than the flashlight! But worth it as they last a good while between charges.

I love these for my evening dog walks and to use in the shop and when camping.

I buy the three-pack of those Duracell flashlights at Costco.
Excellent little lights, but the one I have in my murse (man-purse, man-bag), whatever, turns on when something hits the switch.
I'm an inspector, so I have to have a ton of crap in my bag while I'm out crawling around houses.
I wish they would recess the on-off button more. Sometimes I look in my bag to find the damn thing has been on for who knows how long.
I think they're $18 for three of them- including Duracell batteries. Great bargain except, like most things, made in China.

I was also a big Mag fan. But these inexpensive LED "tactical" (why do they call them that?) mini flashlights really are superior. J5 Tactical are good at about $10.

Sunwayman D20A

It is small, not so light as you might think. Tough, it does not roll. 4 white brightness settings plus disorienting strobe, 3 red settings plus SOS. About 260 lumens on turbo. Low white is enough for most use and that will run about 60 hours on two AA. I got mine straight from China and did not pay this much.

MagLite MagTac Plain Bezel. 310 ANSI - lumen, absolutely reliable. Very good light distribution. I have it in my bikerīs jacket for two years now, gives me good service. And itīs Made in USA.

For those who think they need a brighter light: there is a rechargeable version which can emit 543 ANSI lumen - for a few minutes (like all of these ultrabright lights).

Count me in the volume camp. I use plenty of flashlights and they seem too easy to misplace to spend $70-100 on one. I've had several Inova units that were nice quality, small and bright.

What I need is one with a lanyard attachment that hooks to me like a kids mittens as I seem to have them planted all over the farm and to me 10 bucks is enough to bury each time, lumens are secondary.
