Visiting dealer tomorrow...
« on: August 17, 2016, 07:20:09 PM »
Got home from work this evening and spent an hour putting my 2012 Stelvio back to stock in preparation for a tentative trade tomorrow for the MGX if I like it.  Almost had second thoughts. I really love the NTX. It's fast, fun and just freaky enough for me.  Problem is I haven't had enough fun on it.  4 years and less than 8,000 miles is pathetic. Back when I was an employee, I was able to scrape around 30K miles per year due to vacation times, 10 rallies a year, etc.  Now that I'm an employer, I forget what vacation time and rallies even feel like. Someone tell me again how good retirement is please

Anyways, I'll be sure and chime into the MGX review thread with my thoughts on the extended ride home if I get it.

Funny, Tulsa is about 150 miles or so from my house, but my house is about 300 miles from Tulsa the last couple times I went there (2009 Stelvio and 2012 Stelvio).  Not sure why that is

Lucky.  I've never even seen one in person yet.  What'd you think?

May you make the right choice.

I hope.  Could come down to a coin toss.  With Guzzi though, I don't know if their is a wrong choice.  I like all of them.

You'll miss your Stelvio for the handling but for 2 up touring you'll enjoy it more so will the Boss.  :thumb:  You'll really like the drivetrain.

Hi Luap, I saw the MGX when the did the revealing in spring time. I am still riding the 98 California with the hitch I bought from you. I am currently looking at a 2015 Stelvio. Basically a solo bike for me. My wife really wants the Eldo for 2 up. I liked the looks of the MGX but never considered it. Now that it's out and getting great reviews I could go with another sport cruiser. You are like me and like to rack up the miles in one day while traveling. With the forward foot position you could ride that thing all day.
I bet you'll be impressed. Pictures if you get it please  :gotpics:

Sounds like you're like me, Luap, in that I don't buy anything until I 1st ride/drive it to see If I really want it.  Some times when I test a new vehicle I'm put off by what it is and don't buy it.  My 1st Guzzi was so different I almost didn't buy 1.  But that was 30+ years ago.   Good luck.

Yep. I won't commit unless I like it. It's a major commitment that I don't take light heartedly.

We don't ride 2 up. Momma rides her 2001 California Special.  I will miss a lot of the aspects of the Stelvio though. Heck, I still miss my Quota at times.

I wonder, would you have remorse if the Stelvio goes.. I still miss my Uly .. and my Black Bassa and  my V11...some of the time..

Remorse?  Doubt it.  But I do still miss my Quota, Centauro, and EV at times. But, I always heal up  :azn:

I have the same problem with the 18 mile run from the office to home - on a nice day I have a "tendency" to get lost for some reason

The Stelvio sets a very high bar for all-around performance and capability.

Still, people like different things.

The MGX Bat Bike is certainly different.  If it's a change you want, you are definitely going to be getting that.  I've seen them and sat on them.

The Bat Bike is low-slung, long and dark. It fits in more with an Arlen Ness heavily customized H-D than anything else in the Guzzi or any European bike line up.

I've ridden a regular 1400, hard.  It'll haul butt and it handled well. The MGX has the narrow and tall, disced-out,  21-inch wheel up front (again like many chopperesque custom bikes) so I would expect some variation in handling.

Again, different strokes from different folks.

One thing for sure that I can guarantee you.  Wherever you take that thing, you will attract a lot of attention.

How do you know he's looking at a black one?  Maybe he'll get one that has the other color scheme.

From the Guzzi MGX-21 (as in 21-inch wheel) site-

SINUOUS LINES, DARK SOUL

Dedicated to those who love to travel in total relaxation without going unnoticed. The MGX-21 makes the Cruiser style and solutions its own, reinterpreting them in an original and distinctive way.

Are you going to get custom plates with lettering "BAT-1" or "2F-3567" for nostalgia's sake?

We see vehicles like that in Las Vegas all the time, usually with manufacturers' plates - they want to make life difficult for the spy camera guys looking to get photos of prototype cars!
