CL thread
« on: September 01, 2016, 03:27:34 PM »
Rocker and I were discussing the idea of a CL thread , condense all of the CL posts into one heading, and the keep it stickied up . How do you guys feel about this ?

I would think it would quickly become endlessly long and full of obsolete listings.

We can clean it out every so often . Say any post older than a month .

The way we all love to make fun of some postings, it would be 100 pages in just a few days.

True , but we could all share in the fun . There are probably 20 active CL threads at the moment , just seems to make sense to condense them a bit , and maybe cut down on duplicate threads . Just have to keep up with one thread this way . We could call it the Chuck Peterson and friends CL thread

How about something like this?
This is from another forum. The ebay list is on the left. It only shows the 5 items, with a click on link for others.
It doesn't take up much room, or distract from posts. I have no clue how to do it....but I am handy with a hammer!

Yogi , that would require breaking up the forum , something the boss will never do . Just trying to simplify things a bit . All any member would have to do is watch for the "new" thingie to keep up .

Yeah I know nothing about how to do it or what's involved. Just thought it was a good way to show stuff for sale with little interference to regular posts.

or, people who want to know could use "all of craigs list", search for themselves and skip posting them here entirely.

Would certain posts be banned, such as the guzzi trike with the Bugatti front end?  Certainly all crotch choppers.

No opinion on if we need it.  If it's there folks who care can read it and folks who don't care can skip it.  It's a matter of if someone wants to babysit the list.

Another forum I frequent has a long-running "CL Failures" thread.  It's been going for over 6 years and has over 2100 posts.

Good for lots of laughs.

I could post a link if anyone wants to visit.

Oh sure, just having fun and keeping an eye out for the unusual stuff, guzzi or not, just something I like to do...sounds great. I was worried about posting a lot of stuff people may not want to see...As the moderators wish. Thanks for all the work :thumb:

Decided to add Ebay listings also . The Chuck P and friends thread will live on into , well , maybe not eternity , but for several years . Hopefully this will cut down on duplicate postings .

Ok, since you're bumping for more discussion . . .

If you go back and read this discussion, it seems the reason to have this CL page would be to ridicule and lampoon the featured listings.  Is that what we're about?  What if it belonged to a member here?  Or someone who would have been a member if we hadn't trash talked his bike into humiliation?

Just a thought.

Give the CL thread a time limit and delete.  Since you and Mike are posting a lot anyway.

We will probably just clean it out every 45 days or so . This might not work out , just wanted to give it a chance and see how folks reacted .

Oh , and maybe we shouldn't be too brutal , well except for some of those sport bikes with ape hangers and such , I mean come on

I'm not a fan of any consolidated threads. It makes specific references I'm trying to recall more difficult to find.

With particular reference to Craigslist, I rather like to decide whether to read an individual post based on the bike named in the header. Cramming everything all together would require that I look at the thread in a blind fishing expedition in the hopes that something I'm interest in would turn up.

Don't do it.
