Still my favorite Guzzi I’ve owned among 12 or more.  In person the tank is a work of art to me.  You can have your book, I don’t give a shite, but in mine it’s still gorgeous and the best looking Goose I’ve ever owned.  It also, oddly, got the best mpg even (for me) over my 3 other V7 models which all got great mpg anyhow; thus, the small tank still got me plenty enough miles even while touring.  I need a break anyhow after about 150 or so.

What ever happened the V9 Roamer?  Did it go into the Witness Protection Program?  It's too bad as it was the most comfortable motorcycle I ever sat on, at least as much as one could tell from a few minutes.  I almost bought one from Enzo at Cadre, but it wasn't meant to be.  I always thought a mashup of the two, blacked out look of the Bobber with the seating position of the Roamer, would be ideal.

I guess it didn't sell as well as the Bobber.  I remember reading a few comparisons when they first came out that said "in spite of" the bigger front tire, most of the reviewers seemed to prefer the Bobber but I can't remember why. May be faulty memory, but in any case, if it was selling well, it would surely still be on the floor.

I went to my "local" Guzzi guy to purchase a V9 Romer, but he only had a couple of Bobbers in stock. I ended up buying a V7 Special as it was the ONLY bike in stock that had Chrome...  I guess that im just from a generation that prefers chrome over matt black...
I don't know why MG killed the roamer other than slow sales, and as it looks to me like the Bobber is intended for the "butch cruiser" market, perhaps the Romer was just too elegant ???

If you have one, hang on to it,  it may end up being that rare collector model 25 years from now..

I think they're basically the same bike.  The front tire on the Roamer is skinnier and larger.  The Roamer is chromier while the Bobber is blacked out.  I think the handlebars are more pulled back on the Roamer, but the Bobber has dragstyle bars.  Not much really.  I liked the Roamer better, but would prefer have it blacked out like the Bobber.  Of course that's only one mans opinion.

I could have written this. I too was very interested in a Roamer but the nearest one I could find was 650 miles away. Too far to go to even see if it was something I would like let alone buy. I "settled" for a V7. The Special was the one for me, chrome and twin clocks. Funny thing less than a month later a used Roamer turned up a couple of hours away. I was interested because I had an Audace which was going to eventually become too much for me. I thought the Roamer might be just right to be able to tour on. I know people tour on V7s but as much as I like mine it isn't something I would want to ride long distances. The Audace is gone, a Bonneville has taken it's place.

While the Bobber has soldiered on, the Roamers will all have the earlier E4 engine as will the older Bobbers out there.  I really loved that engine when I rode one.  More horsepower and torque than the V7 III of the time (a nice step up) less than the current V7-850, but in my opinion, an engine that you can do more  modifying if you want.  Many also commented that it felt more like an old Guzzi engine.

The Roamer was a sales flop in North America, it is still being manufactured for more enlightened markets throughout the rest of the planet.   

As such, I was able to buy a brand new 2017 at the end of 2019 for the stunningly low price of $5500 from Cadre, I should have bought an extra for that price!

I really like the progressive improvements to
The V9. The larger seat and subtle paint and footpeg placements make it more and more attractive.

As for the 4 gallon tank and 200 mile range, that's really not an issue (for me at least). But what do I know, I only rode a 79 XS1100 with a 120 mile range on a good day for over 120k miles all across North America, and 5-6 IBA runs in the 90's. Was stopping every 45-50 minutes and draining the tank in 90 mile increments.... LoL in more sedate long distance riding the 120 mile stops kept me fresh. Besides the V 9 and 7 though capable are not really intended for trans continental traversing

Ill likely never own a V9 but I really liked the Bobber Sport and this new model.

I am enjoying my V7 850...can't wait to go on a nice long weekend trip with it.  So far it has more than enough power for me.  Will see when I take it over the Sierra Nevada's how it does...

Well, it's not as ugly as the Navada or that gawd awful strato-batman what the **** ever 

I draw a straight line of development, and looks between the

1970’s V65c..650cc
The 80-90-00-10 Nevada’s …750cc
And the Roamer…850cc
Each has a slight chopper-ish look with longer front legs and a fatter 16” rear wheel. The upright seating helps older hips, too

Yet the circumference of the two tires is made similar by the height of the rear tire, making the ride quite similar to the more standard v7. I’d suggest a Nevada could make a great cafe bike with lowering the forks, clip ons and a bump seat. You’d be lowering the center of gravity compared to a v7

I liked the looks of the Roamer, but the 19" front wheel put me off. I've never sat on one or driven one, I may like it and decide to change from my V7.
The Bobber style is all the rage now but what does the Balloon tire do for the bike?
 My 2015 V7 does not like the Route 90 West at 75 Plus miles per hour. It will do it no problem but prefers the Back roads and so do I. I think the 850 Roamer may do slightly better on the Highway but if I wanted to do that, I would buy a Wing.
I was out riding and stopped for a rest at a restaurant that was packed with HD's When I returned after my "Rest break" my bike had a crowd of people around it wanting to know "how long it took to restore" Do I get parts from swap meets or ebay. They liked the looks but thought the company went belly up in the 70's
Moto Guzzi is a Niche brand compared to Honda and HD is a "Life Style" brand. But if Piaggio wants to continue to make Moto Guzzi's they need to sell bikes and the dealers said send Bobbers not Roamers. Anybody have a good Bobber to Roamer comparison?

That's interesting Chuck, what dealer told you that?   That dealer was, as far as I can ascertain , the exception to the rule.  Even in other markets, I don't believe the Roamer is a Hot seller.

The Roamer didn’t sell at all well in the UK either. Unlike the Bobber we never had the E5 version of the Roamer. I’d say the V7 850 Stone is the biggest seller, followed by the Special, with the Bobber trailing some way behind. Decent low mileage used versions of the Bobber and Roamer are available. Personally I don’t care much for either; I much prefer my Special but we all have different tastes. My brother bought a new Roamer in 2019 but didn’t keep it long, switching to a Royal Enfield Interceptor.

Not only is the V9 the most beautiful Guzzi, but the engine of the first series is certainly one of the best and most sophisticated. When I saw the V9 Bobber for the first time at the dealer, I knew that this would be my bike.
