What is the lightest Guzzi big twin racer?
« on: February 02, 2024, 05:17:32 PM »
In the very early 1980s, Michel built a BMW R100 based racer that weighed only 125 kg / 275 lbs and made 105 PS / 103 hp. Have someone built a similarly light Guzzi with equal engine performance?

1982 XV750/1100 mongrel
1990 XT600Z
2001 NT650V in bits

I'm working on one. I'm hoping for around 400lbs.
100 hp out of a guzzi engine is doable. Making it light is the hard part.

The frame is all T45 steel tubing. aluminum tank, transkontinental clutch, light engine internals, airtech bodywork, etc.

I was going to say that sounds next to impossible. My 1970 R75/5 was listed as being 410 lbs and it was one of the lightest boxers made and I think that was probably dry weight but I don't remember for sure. It would take some major surgery to pare off that much weight. The first few R75s were the lightest, short frame, small battery, minimal extras etc.

I imagine Manfred Hecht's (Raceco US) BOT bike was pretty light. I know it made well over 100 HP. Ironically I just left a party where one of the guys who acquired that bike and even raced it was there but didn’t think to ask him.

To the original question of a lite weight guzzi racer…at 100 hp would be MGS-01 right? But it aint 275..

Need to clear my mind of current insect looking styling..

https://www.ukgser.com/community/threads/the-resurection-of-a-michel-bmw-a-boxer-on-dope.205595/

After reading this link it’s a little clearer…Michel started with a short stroke R65 and added shortened cylinders from R80/R100’s. As noted in the linked thread, probably to much motor for that frame

I think the OP is asking if anyone has done something similar to a small block V65/V50…not likely but there was the racer tuner guy in a racing V65….sold/sells race kits etc…forgotten the name…posted racing videos…

Ah yes…Ed Milich ? (Sp)

Ed wrote a very entertaining autobiography focusing on buying and selling and racing old motorcycles.
