Direct fit mag wheels for jackal?
« on: February 05, 2024, 08:27:14 AM »
Does anyone know of there are direct fit mag wheels for the jackal? Since I am buying new tires I thought it would be nice to move to something tubeless and less maintenance.

None that I know of. The EV and several other models had spoked wheels with tubeless rims.

Your best bet is sealing up the stock wheels, with RTV sealer, to make them tubeless. I have done 2 Guzzis that way, my 73 eldorado, and a 2003 Cali aluminum.  No problems, and much better than dealing with tubes.

I swapped my Jackal spoke wheels for EV spoke tubeless wheels.  You'll need a small spacer for the front and the rear goes from 140 to 130 to clear the swingarm.
Works a treat.

Have run the rear mag wheel from the Lemans 1000 , (same as on SP III , Strada etc)  to a Jackal swingarm and rear drive with no issues.  Used the brake hanger, po8 caliper and oem rotor from the Lemans for plug and play. ...  Cant help you on the front.

would you happen to know if the jackal rims have the safety rim to work with the tubeless tire?

Im not sure on the jackal wheels. I am pretty sure my eldorado s borrani rims are not designed for tubeless, but I have run tubeless on it without any issues. The beads "pop" into place nice and tight, and require a fair amount of pressure to un seat the beads again. Same thing for the chromed steel wheels on the aluminum.

The Borrani's on my G5 operate as tubeless with no issues as well.

My slightly newer cali stone has the safety rim "hump" in them. I sealed them with the sealer, and tape when I got it, and I hardly lose a pound or two of air over the year.

Rick, since at least the 1990s, all DOT approved motorcycle wheels have had the safety bead.

While tubes will typically lose air much quicker than a nail through a tubeless setup, the most important safety aspect is the hump on the bead, as this will almost always keep the tire on the rim in case of a puncture, allowing you to come to a safe stop in most instances.

Put another way; I personally would rather have tubes and rims with safety humps, than old style tubeless wheels and no safety hump.

Yeah, the safety bead is great if you've got it, but if not, don't sweat it. Going tubeless is the higher priority. Going tubeless on a tube rim without safety beads is much safer than running tubes on rims without safety beads.
