Travel plans?
« on: March 17, 2022, 07:16:13 AM »
Does anyone have any good trips coming up? Huzo gets top billing and Beowulf is overseas now.

Our very tentative plans now include:

1. Two weeks in an Airbnb in Como or Aosta in late May if our two college girls can get away. Not likely.

2. A quick trip to Florida to see one of the girls in April.  Dependent on hotel availability and work schedule.

3. Solo trip to our place in Vermont in June with a couple of vintage bikes for three or four days of helmet music and finding new roads.

4. A few days in Vancouver in August to visit the other daughter who will be interning in a physics lab for the summer.

I’m to a point where I enjoy others’ trips and photos almost as much as mine.

I am not allowed to leave the country, but I camp and ride a long weekend every month staying at different state parks.  I started staying at different state parks in Tennessee in spring of 2020 when I converted my enclosed trailer into a toy hauler / camper.  Out of the 56 parks there are 34 that have camping.  I have camped in 15 to date.  I have also visited an additional 15 that don't have camping.

Checked off January and February, and have plans for March, April, and May so far.

My long trip this year will be meeting up with some riders in Ohio to ride the Windy 9, and then a week ride up to Wisconsin for a Road Glide gathering.

I was supposed to tour New Zealand, and visit my son there, in 2020, but don't know if that will ever happen now.

I've just returned from my first trip abroad since lockdown began, to Egypt. Many interesting sights. But also interesting was that there were a lot of bikes in the country, but very few with names I knew. The police used Yamahas, and I saw a couple of little Hondas, but no BMWs, no Triumphs, no Harleys and, sadly, no Moto Guzzis. A few Vespas or Vespa clones. Mostly 150cc to 500cc Indian or Chinese.

NZ is starting to open up again, I think next month for most travellers who are fully vaccinated, I'm going back there on Friday, I don't know how much riding I will do, I have a V9 there.
It's starting to cool off, might be better to wait until next summer.

I am 2 to 5 years from retiring.  I may just wait until I do and then I can just make one long trip to justify the cost of getting there.  My son has moved several times since he arrived.  Always for a better paying position so hopefully he will settle somewhere where I can base out of.  He started on the south island and is now on the north island.  Sounds like you have to change companies every time you want a position with more responsibility and money.
