V7 II engine shut off..
« on: October 27, 2022, 04:03:34 PM »
Is there some safety feature that shuts the engine off when breaking hard?

Happened for the first time, engine warm, was doing ~40mph and had to suddenly brake in a straight line, clutch applied all the way yet engine stopped?!
Is this expected because I don't see why this would happen..

How many miles are on your bike? Do you ever experience any other throttle or idle issues?

Was the gas tank empty?  Sloshed to the front might make the fuel pump such air.
First you look where it should be, then you look where it might be, then you look where it won't be, then you look where it mustn't be.  And when you find it you discover "that's where it should have been."

Perhaps that could be a desirable feature
Perhaps you have something loose in the loom, wiring to the ignition switch maybe?

Some great points, I think @Kaladin is right!
I was running on reserve on my way to the station! never occurred to me the pump must've sucked air instead of petrol  :thumb:

On a small block that is a symptom of crankshaft thrust problems. If it has a timing hole on the right side, remove the plug and with the engine off, pry the flywheel aft . While watching the flywheel pull the clutch lever. It will move forward. The amount of movement fore and aft is your crankshaft thrust clearance. Any more than a millimeter is trouble. If there is not a timing hole, take the alternator cover off and push the alternator aft and again use the clutch lever to move it forward to visually see the amount of end thrust. What happens is when a thrust flange bearing fails, the crank is pushed forward when the clutch lever is pulled at idle it kills the engine. Hopefully it’s something else…
