Some one posted a set of white bodywork for sale here way back that had black trim and hi vis orang on the front along the headlight. Looked pretty nice.

Good buy!  Jealous of the Bub exhaust... had a set on my first LM1, nothing sounds the same. I live just outside Atlanta, not that I need another LM at this point but would have bought myself if you hadn't.

Comparing mileage on title in 1997 to mileage showing now in 2022, it's only showing a 3K mile difference.  If he had it fully rebuilt and then not ridden much before being drained & parked as he claimed, that could be very good news.

You could hope so.

Or it could indicate a non-functional odometer for an unknown number of miles/years.

The Mayor/Chad and I were talking about the round headlight/fairing conversion earlier today at the show.  He's looking forward to getting his CX from Scout63.  The

I'm glad this bike isn't pristine.  It will be easier to just relax and enjoy it, especially if the engine doesn't need a full rebuild to be a rider.

If your going to take this route with the rounded head light, replace the whole harness with Greg Bender’s work. The original switches on mine were in bad shape so they were changed a long time ago.  I ground off the tabs on the top clamp to make it look more intentional but it is a bit of work.

My bike was in pretty bad shape when I got it with unknown miles, but I’ve always taken good care of the bike. One day as I was a block from home the engine started clanking and it turn out to be a bad crank shell which I found out later that they had a batch of bad shells for those bikes.

Really not sure what changes I may make.  This seat is a make or break detail for me.  Every time I think about a Le Mans I, I like them a lot.  But when I see the original square hump seat in person, it's an aesthetic deal breaker every time.  This seat is one of my favorites.  Now the rectangular headlight is growing on me because reminds of my friend's F1B Ducati that I like so much.  Going back to a original red and black paint scheme will probably happen first before I make more drastic changes.

I had some time today to begin prep to either start the engine or start the rebuild.   Pulled the pristine inside & out tank and went to work.  Original wiring harness looks great.  The present rubber mounted PHF 30 pumper carbs were not run dry when parked but looked good and cleaned up easily after a quick strip.  The present UFI Oil filter is dated May 14, 2001, which correlates to PO's account of bike being parked about 20 yrs ago.  Inside of engine looks like new via bottom (oil pan) and top (valve covers), not 48K miles and nothing is hacked or damaged.  Best of all was finding Gilardoni cylinders on the bike.   Very cool.

Edit- Blackcat- I meant to ask about the position of your tubes in the modified top clamp.  Seems like they're really low..   Why don't they pass all the way through to the top?

I think the lemans II / CX100 is the prettiest of the LeMans series. Since this will never be an original paint bike...

When I was much younger I would restore / repaint vintage Lionel trains, plastic diesel units in poor shape that some pre teen had desecrated with brush on model paint. I found that spray on oven cleaner did a very good job of stripping paint of plastic without damaging the plastic and sometimes, if I was very careful, I could get the 'repaint' off and save most if not all the underlying original paint. Might be worth trying on the side covers and fairing.

I have heard of people soaking painted plastic parts in brake fluid as well to strip paint, I just don't care for he smell or feel of brake fluid.

I've recovered original paint that was underneath repaint  in the past.  That's not an option this time.  Someone did a lot better job completely stripping the original paint than applying the new paint.

No matter, my relaxing afternoon of simple fixes didn't result in a running bike.  One needle wouldn't seat, even with some extra effort.  The list of needed parts has been started.  Still, it's nice to have what seems to be a great bike in good condition to add to the garage.

Fwiw, this bike was titled in NC prior to being titled in GA in 1997.

There hasn't been much time for bike stuff lately, but I've been slowly tinkering on this CX doing the basic long-parked-bike-go-through before money is spent.  Stripped and cleaned carbs.  The leaky needle & seat settled down in a couple of days.   Removed bodywork to clean and inspect wiring.  Remounted and rerouted the Dyna ignition.  Did oil, etc.   Got a battery about 2 wks ago but had no luck with getting bike to start or even turn over, so I started chasing power.  Today I pulled starter to clean contacts in solenoid/bendix.

Reinstalled starter and tank.  Spun engine a few times with no plugs to build oil pressure.  Installed plugs.  Cranked it a little more.  Then connected coils & hit the button.  It started instantly and ran well.  No leaks.  No undue smoke.  Sounds great.

I still need to address the lighting, completely go through the brakes and get a list together of little bits of things to order..  Anxious to get a tag on it and ride when I can.

When I pulled the starter, I found it has a fully lightened flywheel that still looks shiny new.  Very cool.  It's an assumption, but I would suspect the clutch is likely not a lot older than the flywheel.

Pretty stoked right now.

Cool, you need to post a video when you can.

The original Bosch starter on my CX always struggled cranking the engine even with a new battery, but works perfectly fine with a Valeo starter. The funny thing is that the Bosch starter will work in my 1000S and now resides in the LeMans I. Never could figure that one out.

That is odd.  I upgraded my V7 Sport to a big bosch starter very soon after I put it on the road in the 90's, iirc I got a used one from John Hoffman at Cycle Specialties.  Once I fixed my poor charging issues (mostly corrosion in fuse panel connections) I never had any problems with it.  I've been thinking about putting a Valeo on my Corsa Record cafe project, but haven't gotten one yet.  Before I do a video, I need to do another youtube channel. I want to keep my current channel all studio-related.  But then I could also do some video on my cafe build.

That sounds great Cliff, you'll like it when done.

I agree, Steve.  It seems like a great fit for me in numerous ways and is a excellent permanent addition to the garage.  Having triple discs in modern traffic won't hurt and it's really nice that it's not a perfect unrestored original bike needing to be preserved..   Getting a legit special bike like this one for reasonable/cheap money nowadays is the best part.   Paying full retail price takes all the fun out of it for me.

This clutch makes some chatter while in neutral when idling/running that I'm not used to hearing from a Guzzi.  Sounds somewhat like the dry clutch on a Ducati twin with a ventilated cover.  But it quiets down completely when it's shifted into gear.  Maybe that's normal, maybe not, ??.  I haven't done much with other Guzzis with similar mods. With the clutch chattering, lightened flywheel and bub exhaust, it sounds and revs a lot differently than my V7 Sport.   I won't be able to ride it until after brake are done and rotten leaky tires are replaced.

I need to measure the lift to get a better idea of what camshaft they may have installed.  PO only said they put in a "bigger" camshaft that came from Europe.   If it is, bigger carbs may suit it well given the other work that's been done with the engine.

The noise is most likely a result of the lightened flywheel. Much less damping of combustion impulses causing accelerating and slowing of clutch package and therefore causing rattle.

My CX has a lightened flywheel from Ed Milich and I don’t think it rattles but I’ll have to do a side by side comparison with another bike. Maybe different fabricators deliver different sounds?

Out of curiosity, how much of a difference does a lightened flywheel make?  Not that I would do it to my LM1 at this point, just wondering what the effects are.

Quicker acceleration but you give up momentum with the lighter flywheel, at least I do with the CX. If the bike is in 5th gear and a long hill is approaching I just try to keep the rev's up.

Interesting, makes sense. I live in an area of rolling hills and I am impressed with how easily my LM1 is going up them. Related note... my brother has a killer wood chipper, one of they key features is the large fly wheel that allows it to chug through larger branches than cheaper ones  :thumb:.

This is my first lightened flywheel Guzzi, so the clutch noise is fine with me as long as it's not a loose/worn parts issue.   The clutch pull at hand lever is pretty light as well, not as stiff as my V7 Sport so springs may be soft and contributing to the chatter I'm hearing.

Engine seems to spin and accelerate (in neutral on center stand) quicker than my V7 Sport with stock heavy flywheel, both starting and running.   It's not the same slowish Guzzi chug/rev that I'm used to.  If said video happens, I'll have to get another good battery to start & rev the two bikes while side by side.

Seller said the camshaft might be a Hite (like kite) or something like that, sourced from Europe in the late 90's.  I've done some internet searching but have found nothing of relevance.  Any ideas, even if that name was a parts supplier and not a manufacturer?

Thanks, man.  I’m still thrilled to have it.  Life has clarified other priorities to address recently, so even though I’ve gotten a lot done it’s still not tagged & on the road yet.  Just a few test runs so far and I’ve enjoyed those..

Quick update.  Brakes are fully redone including new braided ss lines, are still linked and seem to be working well.  Lots of rubber bits replaced. Redid wheels to tubeless for new tires. Numerous parts were provided by Scout63/Ben (thanks, man) to resolve missing and fatigued items.  The quick cleaning of carbs got it running ok but may not have been enough so trying got make time to get up to the shop to use my ultrasonic cleaner that’s out for more than me alone to use.   When I did first ride it,  spark knock was noticeable with any amount of throttle so timing was backed off a little, but it didn’t resolve it.  Then I found the factory timing marks were no longer on the lightened flywheel  and the R & L pricks added by whomever did the flywheel may not be as accurate as they need to be.   I’ve not had the time to focus on the bike and sort out the carbs, timing and tuning. Long story…

there are still some details with the electrical like lights/directionals that need address.  It may be a matter of switchgear needing replacement.  We’ll see.

Lower fairings would be the same as an SP.

I remember Roper saying alloy timing gears were trash. Did you look under the tank for the original color?
I once had a CX that came all taken apart in boxes.

I’ve got the lower fairings to install later.  Paint on them is coming off in big pieces….

If the timing gears are an issue, they’ll be addressed.  From the few remnants found under side covers and the entire incense plate mount, it looks like it was originally a red bike.  But the more I look at it,  the more I’m liking the non-original white & red paint to go with my red Sport and will-be yellow/green Corsa Record.   Lately I’m thinking of adding the day-glow decals around the headlight.

I’m into original paint.  Once it’s gone, paint & color means nothing to me.  At this point, the effort and budget to paint it back to original livery is the lowest priority of the project. I want the rest to work well so I can ride & enjoy without having to worry about caring for perfect $$$ paint.

Edit- Before anyone asks or messages me, there’s nothing for sale here.. TIA
