Ambassador Speed Hut Gauge?
« on: September 27, 2022, 02:20:15 PM »
I want to install an Ambassador single gauge dash on my 1972 Eldorado, I think I have gone through two stock tachometers and one Spanish made reproduction tach plus the speedo is erratic at best.

The Mayor of BBQ sold me a real nice Ambassador dash that take a 100 mm instrument I plan on fitting a combination speedo / tach unit.

I looked into Speedhut and their combined unit fits a 100 mm opening and there are plenty of options for the face design, such as SKU - GCD4-117, this is a GPS unit.

There are also KOSO units that are similar, less expensive but a bit smaller in diameter and will require a trim ring to be fabricated.

Has anyone fitted a 100 mm Speedhut gauge to an Ambassador that could hare their thoughts?

Its too bad speedhut does not make a tach to fit inside the loopframe  civilian gauge housing. I have fitted two speedhut tachs in tontiframe dashes, on a 98 EV,and and 84 CalII. Both were pretty easy to adapt, and worked flawlessly. I have an eldorado, that has a  bouncing electronic tach, so I may have to go down this road in the future. Good luck with your installation.

I put a speedhut speedo on my LMIII several years ago. It's worked flawlessly!  :thumb:

Thanks for the positive comment on Speedhut, I sent them an email asking they review the pictures of the Ambassador dash I sent and advise on mounting compatibility.

i had done some research on doing this exact same thing.

i found the guzzi speedo drive is actually pretty universal. officine08 an italian aftermarket parts website has one or two electronic VSS that bolt into the guzzi trans. id rather have that vs a GPS speedometer.

speedhut has the 4" speedo and thats 101.6mm which seems like it wouldnt be a big deal to make work in the ambassador dash.

I ordered a Tachometer from Speedhut a couple of weeks ago for my "97 Sporti.  They've been great to work with.

Here is the artwork we came up with (if my upload works).

There are all sorts of options for the electronic input. (sporti has an electronic tach) I should be able to take the signal from the ECU.  Or the negative of one coil.

It will be delivered on Wednesday!
