What first drew you to Moto Guzzi?

What was it that first drew you to Moto Guzzi? Was it one that you saw in person, a friend’s Moto Guzzi, the sound, the design, a magazine article or what?

For me, I was seeking “Character” in a motorcycle. For eight years, I had owned a BMW R90S from 1977 to 1986. It had character but it just was not reliable and things kept going wrong. I needed reliability.

In 1986, I sold it and bought a new 1986 BMW three cylinder K75. I owned two of them up until 2013 when I longed for that character I had in the R90S.

After a few test rides, I knew the Guzzi’s had the character I was looking for. That’s when I decided on the 2008 Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport. It had the character I had been looking for and hopefully reliability. As I began my return ride from Oklahoma back to Pennsylvania, it only took one hour of riding and I named it the “Bull Train.” After 13 years of ownership, it still brings the character and the reliability I was looking for.

What first drew you to the Guzzi side?

Price! In 2011 I found two heavily discounted leftover 2007 Griso 1100's f/s at a local dealership on eBay. I made an offer and they accepted.

Back in 1991, I was registering for college and popped by a dealership named Dave's Cycle Service in Mesa, AZ. There were as many used bikes as new on the floor. ( I miss those kinds of dealerships). There was a black Ambassador parked right inside the front door. I was smitten. Dave told me all of the virtues of Moto Guzzis. A few months later I found a salvage title T-3 for $500.00. That was my first motorcycle.

35 years later I ended up buying Dave's old CCS/pro-thunder race bike and putting it on the road. I also purchased a different Ambassador from Dave in 2012.

I've owned a KTM, a Busa, Ducati's, Triumph's, and ridden several other brands. I didn't like any of them as much as I do Guzzi's.

The fall of 76 I toured from N IL and didn't make Key West. Stopped in Daytona at a friends for couple weeks then back home in 23hrs non-stop on a 71 Bonnie.
Fresh tune before I left & fresh tune before returning. Guzzi would go 5Kmi not 1200mi for a tune up. It was also like a V8 engine. I also had a dual point distributor on my 289. What's not to like. Only brand I have bought since cept a 70 Desmo 350 Ducati

Guzzidad:
In 76 when I discharged out of the Air Force I bought an XS2 Yamaha 650. But several of my friends had Nortons and Triumphs. I thought the Nortons were cool and subsequently had a few of them. And a Triumph. I was fortunate to live in the Fox Valley of WI, Appleton to be exact. In Menasha, a neighboring town, Marshall Elmer had a bike shop catering to all the European brand bikes except BMW. I bought my first Guzzi from him, a 75 850T. So much easier to maintain the the English bikes. I later bought an 89 LeMans from him. I've had several other Guzzi's since then, among a couple other bikes, but I still have a couple Guzzi's in the garage.
