Norges at Auction
« on: January 10, 2019, 10:23:15 AM »
Just noticed this auctioneer had 2 Norges for sale in MN. I don't think it's online (other than on this local listing website) so maybe a possible good deal to be had.

Lot 2, burgundy and white Norge. That is a fine looking mc in person. Saw one up close @ Hamlin's, last summer.  R3~

I don’t see a lot of Norge’s here in central Mn, so I’m wondering where they came from and how much they might go for. Since I have a 2007 Norge and 6 other bikes already my wife reminds me I don’t really have room for more. But I really like the color s of both and something deep inside desires, I know it’s the disease. I’m going through there next Thursday it maybe hard to resist just stopping to look, what could go wrong with just looking?

I attended auctions like this one years ago here in Denver.  What usually happens is that a few dealers show up and bid the price up to the wholesale value of the bike or car.  The dealers then stop bidding, leaving the auction floor for the rubes.  I quit going.

Except for one time my confidence level @ auctions is always very low.  But once again, That burgundy is very deep and on second thought, the one I saw, up close, was silver and burgundy, w/silver wheels. Gadzoox! Norge's always look great, regardless of color; but that, w/ matching hard bags? . . . . R3~

Am I correct in assuming that both of these bikes would need to have the rollerized valve kit installed? If so given a fair amount of mechanical skill can I do this myself? If not what would it cost to have it done at a Guzzi dealer?
Just so I know what the real potential cost might be.

Both are 2015 and are factory rollerised.

Nope, both are rollers from the factory. Rollers started 2013-and all 2014 were rollers.

Mine is a 2014, and I'm 1/2 convinced it initially came off the assembly line as a 2013 flat tappet bike and was converted to roller, but done poorly, with one cam out of sync by 1 tooth. I bought it in 16 from a wholesaler, and from what we could tell, it was bought in October of 2015 as a 2014 leftover, the dude took lots of pics of it, ran it for 800 miles without the bags, then traded it in in March of 16 at an LA Harley Dealer for a............ Sportster..... It went to auction and I picked it up for $7k with about 800 miles.  Bike wouldn't rev over 6k, and after 1500 miles of experimenting had MI check the cam/valve timing. Walla.......... All is good. At 11K miles now, and is a sweet ride, no other issues other than weeping grub screws.

I've added an extra LED driving light, upgraded horn, rear LED stop/tail lights, and a USB charging port. I also moved the mirrors to the fairing, I didn't like the handlebar mounted mirrors. The new ones are smaller, and provide a smaller sight picture, but are convex and more functional. need to work on the seating position a bit, the stock seat pushes me forward too much, and the Corbin is too hard on the outer edges and too deep. I need to have it rebuilt and raised about an inch, with softer side edge.

The Norge really is a great do it all motorcycle. Sporting, solid and stable but nimble, hangs well in the twisties, great power, smooth, comfortable, and light enough. Great luggage/storage.

Just stopped and looked at both. They are just as they appear in the add. both have decent rubber, white one tires look about 1000 - 1500 hundred miles on tires, maroon / brown one probably over 2000 miles tires. Both look cosmetically great, no signs of damage. White one saddle bags are missing. The operator of the auction house told me the bikes were brought up from a closing dealer down south ? They were taken off the floor by the bank and he thinks bidding will start around $4000. He told me if I want a chance I’d need to be there in person before 6 pm next Tue, he says they aren’t taking on line bids and( which makes me wonder why they are being auctioned at an online joint ) he thinks they will go fast as the bank wants to move them. He added that he thinks that they will go for between $5000 - 8000. Currently 12 degrees F here in central Mn ridding weather is a long way off, unless your Foto Guzzi , and Guzzi’s of all makes aren’t real frequent around central Mn. It would be interesting to be there to see who picks them up and how much they actually go for. If someone is really interested / serious I might be able to arrange the time to go. Oh the Aprilia 1200 Caponord they have listed is a neat looking bike also no damage, But it won’t go on this auction the paperwork won’t be there in time,It will go next month.

Pretty unrealistic prices for Guzzis in Minnesota in January.  If you go, let us know what they sell for (if they sell).

For those interested in current Norge market here in Central Mn. A friend of mine went to the auction the OP listed. Here is his report of the bidding.

Ok, here's the after-action review of the auction.  Of the 7 bikes there....0 were sold!  Not a single one.  Either the banks have these guys on a short leash or they don't have a clue as to values in this soft market.  Both?
As is typical at an auction, they would open at a high number, then drop down to something lower (yet still ridiculous), then listen to silence at which time they would move on.  There was some bidding.  The 650 Versys was pristine, 2,000 miles on it, and the bid went to $2800 and they said 'not enough.'  Then they stopped the action and asked the bidder if he would move to $3000, and if yes they would call the bank to see if they would accept.  The guy said no 3 times, he wouldn't budge.  I am not certain, but I believe the Ducati Diavel went to $7100, and they moved on.  I don't believe anybody even bid on the Norges.

I had an idea that this was just some A- hole type auction house wasteing everyones time, with an appraisal. Just another manifestation of a band of traveling grifters, I say. Most people only get sucked into going to these things once.

Unless the seller wants the bikes gone regardless of cost, it's hard to understand why the seller wouldn't put the bikes on an internet auction site like ebay or Bring a Trailer.  How many motorcyclists will travel to the middle of Minnesota in winter to place in-person bids?  I'd question the seller's good faith on this one.
