For (bling)'s sake !!
« on: January 13, 2019, 02:36:30 PM »
Seeing how most of us gootsie guys and gals are cheap bastids,
I don't expect too many of us coming forward with our "confessions of bling".
We are, as a whole, just to practicle for such nonsense, right? Or not..
So here's my entry into the club of bling.
Carbon fiber Hand guards.
I feel dirty for blowing an unholy wad on these things.
Sure they knock some of the cold off my hands, but plastic would have been just as effective.
Has anyone else blinged for bling's sake? Come forth and be cleansed!

When I had my Aprilia Falco I splurged on carbon fiber!  Love the stuff!  For the Guzzi bought blingy turn signals but that's about it.

My bling kings.  Both blinged out by previous owners.  The V11 has carbon fiber bikini fairing and stainless exhaust.  Everything else is powder coated.  The MV has carbon cans, carbon fenders, carbon heel guards etc.  And the carbon air intakes were over 1100 bucks alone.  Then when the previous owner ran out of things to replace with carbon he started chroming.  Wheels, swing arm, frame plates, triple trees, even started chroming engine parts.  Dude had a thing for shiney I guess.

I vehemently dislike matte finishes, especially with no color, i.e. grey, black.
I knew I wanted a series 3 racer and I would change the entire look as soon as possible. At less than 600 miles I had swapped wheels for cast and powder coated them. All the body work was repainted and side cover detailing added. A matching color Marlin wind screen and a custom covered brown seat, w/red stitching was added. (the racer cowl is 4 sail cheep).
At ~ 5600 miles I had Hamlin Cycles change out the frt. caliper & master cylinder for a Brembo 15RCS mc and 4 piston caliper.  That thing is actually easy to look at, In My View. It also stops well enough to give you a face plant.  R3~

If bling is expensive stuff that changes appearance with no real difference in function, then the bling on my Scura is:
 - Carbon Fiber belly pan
 - Rizoma hydraulic fluid canisters (to replace the stock piss-cups)
 - Quite a bit of powder-coating

I've done lots of other stuff too, but mostly there is some functional improvement, such as:
 - Carbon fiber inner fender (also better protects lower shock mount from road spray)

The only thing I've installed purely for looks is wax, but will admit to being particular about performance/ergonomic parts enhancing the bike's "look." Bikes have always been a bit of a blank canvas to me. I try to make it fit my body, to operate at it's best, and to be as safe as possible without compromising the looks that made me dig the bike to begin with.

What? No one admitting to polishing anything?! (Dusty notwithstanding )
(That MV is certainly worthy)  I not sure if even the GRiSO could pull off that kind of "pure bling".

I had an MV Augusta F4, 750 SR for a while..
Although very tasty, was relatively understated bling wise, but the curves were very MGS 01, BMW R1100 S, 916 Ducati esque..
You know how an early 2000's model of Angelica Jolie, doesn't need a pearl necklace to look "flash"..? (Oh dear...)
However.
In Oz, when in non polite company, "bling" (when carried to excess), is termed "Woggy"..
Purple Chrysler Valiants from the '70's with white seats and fluffy dice hanging off the rear view mirror and an ex-pat Eastern European driver from the Baltic States, who smells strongly of Brute 33 or Old Spice spring readily to mind..
PS.
Hmmm..
"Old Spice.."
Isn't that another less complimentary term for Victoria Beckham ? :whip2:

I like Griso's a lot. Nice, with a somewhat threatening look. Impressive performance.  As in 'I'm not a misfit'.  'Don't get me started'. I would not call them elegant or classy; as in Brough Superior. Those terms are for a few MV Agusta, Ducati the MGS01 and my all time favorite, the 'IME'.  An air cooled 2 stroke single - counterbalancing its single sided swingarm, which is also the exhaust outlet. Minimal frame; streamlined about the steering stem, small fuel tank and head light. A long gone dream was to build similar using an Aermacchi drive line. Or a rare MG 2 stroke single. Or Imagine the sleekest, most simple MG bacon slicer possible.
     Good fortune, R3~

I was never a fan of the black plastic fork caps on the V7/50 so eventually I broke down and popped for the billet aluminum version.  Then of course during installlation, I found there were perfectly fine satin finished bolts just under the plastic caps.  I don't care, the bling once look way nicer anyway....
