Couldn’t take it anymore
« on: February 08, 2019, 06:01:07 PM »
So, after looking at Scud’s new Stelvio. I went on the net and read all the road tests , checked out the accessories and the new bikes being offered. The discounts are amazing. Love that green color. Bike looks fabulous.  Started waking up at night thinking about it. That’s not a good sign. Called Las Vegas and made a deal. They will hold the bike thru April when I can pick it up. Counting the days.

Mark, it'd be nice if the dealer could do some of these fixes before delivery.  That'd be a nice condition to include in the terms of sale.  I guess I'n getting lazy, and would like to have the bike 'ready to go' re these fixes that weren't done by the factory.

Having said that, the CARC Guzzi has to be one of the nicest Guzzis in recent times.  Wish I wasn't 5'8", with 30" inseam.  I would have loved one.

Congrats on the new bike, Randy!

Yikes! That's about $70 per fillup using NZD. With the exchange rate ($1 NZD = $0.67 USD) that's still to over $46 USD per 8 gallon tank full

The Stelvio handles way better than most expect it to and the ergonomics allow you to make us of the super tanker range. I liked mine way better than the GS I have now. Damn deer!

Premium gas here is about 3$/Gallon. 24 bucks for about 320+ miles isn't bad.

I know everybody have gone on and on about the aux lights, but the solution is really simple and very inexpensive. On mine, I simply added insulation to the lead of wire coming off the bulb itself and prepped a couple spares for when I might need them. 3M fiberglass insulating tape, two wraps on the short lead attached to the bulb in 2012 has been sufficient to prevent the issue discussed regarding the lights. I have checked them on occasion but all is well and I have not needed my spares as of yet. I have not added in line fuses to those lights as others have, but it certainly is not a bad idea. I simply have not done it myself.

The point is, this does not need to be a costly fix, and has served me well for years now.

As Zoom Zoom said, or if you like to light up the road like an extraterrestrial vehicle, replace them with some $100 Cree LEDs.  Even this hoopdy mechanic could splice the wires and shrink tube them.  I'll see if I can find the 'zack ones I got and post a link.  You'll love the bike.  I love mine, but under 3mph I swear at her a lot...

Well we don't know that for sure. I would really like the lighter weight  of the V85, but it's too early yet to know which is the better bike.

$2.17 per/lit for premium 3.78 to turn it in to US gals X 8 (wow, that's a big tank) = TA DA.... $65.62 NZ X .67 = $43.96US.

Close enough to $46.

Randy - I am honored to have been such a bad influence on you. I am enjoying my Stelvio, although it's been raining almost non-stop here since I got it and I've had only one "fun" ride.  However, I made more round-trips to work between fill-ups than I did on my ST3.

There is a long sweeping curve on the way to work that has a mid-curve dip in it - which unsettled my Ducati if I hit it too fast. The Stelvio soaks it up and I laugh in my helmet every day I hit it.

The bags are fabulous - and I notice that they go full open without hitting the bars or the mirrors, even when turned one way to full-stop (although they come very close to hitting). It's the kind of engineering that I expect from a BMW - and am pleasantly surprised to find it on an Italian bike.

So yeah... great deals to be had on the few remaining new Stelvios. I am pleased that I got it instead of waiting for the V85. Another point of consideration... it seems that the last model years of any Moto Guzzi are much better than the first few years. So I like knowing that I have the "pinnacle" of Guzzi's product development efforts with the final Stelvio NTX.

And can you believe how much great stuff comes with it - bags, bash plate, handguards, 12v plugs, fog lights, etc....  My only regret is not asking for the heated grips to be installed as part of the deal.

Well , better bike for me for sure :
More power/ bigger engine.
Tubeless wheels.
Better price
More space for two up riding.

That’s enough for me to decide it’s a better bike .( for me )

Actually, you might be better off getting your own heated grips.  I find the stock grips to be exceptionally weak (can barely feel them in moderately cold weather), and I have heard several others say the same.  I have purchased a set of Oxfords that I plan to install in their place.  Others have simply adapted them to the stock harness with great results, and I plan to do the same.  I've sourced the appropriate Molex connectors for the project, so there won't be any need to modify the bike at all.

Cheers,

Could you post a link to the appropriate connectors?  I like the idea of adding the Oxfords to the stock wiring.

Had the Oxfords on my ST3 and ran them on 60-80% on a frigid run home from San Francisco last month.

I was also thinking about heated gloves, since there is a handy 12v on the dash.
